You smelt of lemons and limes on a good day

Fragrant and sweet, enchanted heart beats,

As you stepped out of your nightly shower,

Eyeing your love, thanked heavens above.

"My sweet," I'd whisper with a ghost of a smile,

"Be with me tonight and show me the light.

For you are the one I'm destined to be with,

Beyond infinities galore, perhaps even more.

For you, my dear, are the one that I fear."

"For my racing heart is a civilized structure.

And love a game meant for the untamed.

I've pieced together these feelings within me, and

They're boxed neatly and tight, isolated blacks and whites,

And perplexed shades of greys do not linger."

Still, "Love me," you'll whisper, your hand caressing my cheek,

And my hazel eyes would fall in demise

For love was never a part of my biology.

My heart did not dare travel beyond where

The mind strayed beyond all logical reasoning, for

Once you are lost, you are lost.

And thoughts can no longer rescue your sorry behind.

Mistakes are mistakes: once it breaks, it breaks.

For beyond that appealing scent of lemons and limes,

There is a sharp jab, with a push and a stab

The juices of sour reality will start flooding through.

Though once you admired, you're now simply tired

And all you crave is an end to all these feelings.

Because if it isn't now, it'll happen, I vow

For love is not love without saying goodbye.

No matter infinities galore or perhaps even more,

There isn't a destiny when it comes to 'our love'.

But before I ever do bid farewell to you, my dear.

I shall hug you close, by next morn, arose,

For smelling like lemons and limes and heartache,

I'll walk away, convincing myself for the umpteenth time.

"No, that was not love."

A/N: Sorry for not updating for quite a while. I just entered my new semester and things have been gradually picking up. University seems to not want me to have any free time, which sucks. But oh well. I'll try to squeeze in all the poetry I can. :)

Anyway, hope you all are doing good. :)
