~3 days later~
Thanksgiving is today
I had cooked all the food
I'm currently driving to New Jersey since I'm spending thanksgiving with my family
Zoe is visiting family in Chicago so everyone at work is off for a couple of days
I stop my car when I notice a car following me as I drive to the highway
"What the hell?" I mumble & I climb out of the car
I peak out to see Nate come out of his car
"Nate!! I said for you to stay! Me & Zaniya are the only ones coming for thanksgiving to NJ" I say whining
"I don't care. I wanna meet your parents." He says & he rubs my cheek
"I'm not letting you in this car." I say crossing my arms
He smirks & leans into my ear
"Remember the cruise?" He says & bites his lip
I melt a little & I sigh
"Do I.." I say smiling like a idiot
"Never seen a glow on you so much until the next morning" he says giggling
Zaniya sticks her nose into everything like she always does
"What did you do on the cruise?" She asks smirking
I slap her arm
"Get back in the car Niya" I say rolling my eyes
She laughs & runs to the car
"Always starting up with me-"
He kisses me softly & I kiss him back
"Oooh" I hear from behind Nate
I see Zaniya with a camera
The camera light flickers indicating she took a picture
My hands ball up in a fist
"RUN" I say pissed & I chase after her
She runs fast but not as fast as me
I grab her phone & delete the picture
She groans
"Your no fun" she says sticking out her tongue
"Please child I know what's fun." I say rolling my eyes & sticking mines out at her
"Alright I'm driving" Nate says snatching the car keys from me
"What? It's my car!" I say pouting & stomping my feet
He smirks
"Yes but if you wanna arrive at your parents house faster trust me." He says
I sigh
"If we die in a car crash it was nice knowing ya" I say
He giggles & grabs my hand
"Don't think like that" he says & kisses my forehead
Zaniya climbs into the backseat & I sit in the passenger seat
"Ready?" He asks after we bucked ourselves in
We nod & he slams his foot on the gas
We pass all of the green lights
I scream
"Nate slow down please" I say grabbing onto my seat
I'm scared for my life.
~a hour later~
We arrive at Hoboken,New Jersey where I was born & raised for most of my life
We drive around a old neighborhood I used to live at
We drive to the next neighborhood to find my parents house
I hop out of the car with Zaniya left to help Nate with the food
I bang on the door
My mom opens the door & I throw myself in her arms
"Omg my princess...come in all of you." My mom says before eyeing Nate
who's now behind me
We set the food on my parents old large wooden table
My dad hugs me
"Sweetheart!" He exclaims
"Dad!" I say & he spins me around a little
"How's the Ol' job." I say smiling
He has been working for the same job since before I was born
Even when I was born
I went to work with him for "take your daughter to work" day
Every single year
"It's still going strong!" He says
"That's amazing."
Can't believe it's still up & working
It's been such a long time
"Who's that young fella?" He asks
"Umm.that-"
The doorbell rings
I raise a eyebrow
Zaniya & I look out the window
"Omg it's suga mama!" We exclaim
"Suga mama" is my grandmother
She always carries around candy with her
Hence the reason she's called "suga mama"
Plus we were little when me & Niya used to call her that
She stills answers to that nickname & the usual "grandma"
My mom opens the door & my grandma struts in with a furry coat on
Her hair fixed up & she has gloves on
She even has makeup on!
Not bad for a woman her age at all.
She hugs me
"Ahh my oldest grandchild" she says pinching my cheeks
"Aww suga mama!" I say giggling
"You look so beautiful" she says
"Thank you!" I say
"You look beautiful too mama" I add
"Your aunt is busy with her new rich husband Ferdinand on vacation in Cancun..she never bothers with us anymore" she says
My aunt is what you call "gold digger"
She married her first husband
He didn't have a stable paying job so she dumped him
She also dumped her 3 other husbands
Now "Ferdinand" is a millionaire & happily gets along with her
She married him in a month's time & now they're married & in Cancun,Mexico for vacation
Like my grandma said
Ever since she got married
She thinks of us lowly
I don't care anymore screw her & my snobby cousins
"anyway who's the cute guy?" She asks pointing to Nate
"Suga mama!" I say gasping & laughing
She winks at me
"What's? He's cute!" She says
"I remember back to my dancing days..boys like him would love a girl like me" she adds
"You mean white boys" I say raising a eyebrow
"Yes of course. They loved me when I was young & vibrant like you Ziah." She says
"I love him suga mama" I say
"Why are you two not married?" She asks
I choke on my own words
"Suga mama!" I gasp
"What? You two are young & in love..just like me & your papa. Boy do I miss him"
My grandfather died 2 years ago
I miss him dearly
"Your not the only one mama" I say rubbing her back
"Back to the question!" She says
"Mama..I'm just..not ready"
"Ziah your 21 years old & have a awesome paying job. You even have a place of your own. I understand the "independent woman" kind of role your trying to portray. But sweetie you need happiness also." She says
"Grandma it's complicated" I say
"Ziah! Please don't turn into what I thought I was" she says grabbing me
"I thought I didn't need a man & look 60 years of marriage,3 kids,5 grandchildren later..I'm happy. Please Ziah for once think about your future & less on the past"
She says & heads to the kitchen
Damn for a 78 year old she's very wise & strong
I head to the table
I set up the plates
My mom brings out the turkey
"Who will carve the turkey?" My mom asks
My dad puts his hand up & starts carving the turkey
He served pieces of it on all of the plates
~a while later~
I'm eating my food
When suddenly Nate stands up
"I wanna make a speech" he says clinking his glass
Everyone looks at him including me
"Ziah Noel Jones..you made my life so much better the moment we first met,I saw your picture before we actually met & I thought you were so beautiful..the second I heard your soft voice I fell in love with you. Your smart,kind,generous,beautiful,gorgeous,extraordinarily beautiful,the love of my life & most of all your my queen. I wanna spend the rest of my life with you. Ziah will you make me the happiest man alive & marry me?" He says on his knee
He opens up the small box & I see the most beautiful engagement ring I've ever seen
I teared up
This is all real & I felt so emotional
"Marry her? Who are you?" My dad asks Nate looking slightly mad
"I'm her boyfriend sir" Nate says politely
"She never said anything about you before" my dad says
"Honey relax just sit down." My mom says trying to sit my dad down
"It's okay Nate just continue on" my mom adds
"What does he even do?" My dad asks
"I'm a rapper-"
"WHAT?" My dad says in shock
"Carlson Jones sit your ass down right now!" My mom yells
"No. I will not let my daughter marry a rapper!" My dad says
"Let the girl answer the question!" My grandma yells
Everyone's attention is on me
"Yes" I say nodding
"I will marry you!" I say & he slips the ring on my finger
He kisses me & spins me around
My mom & grandma applauding me
While my dad stand in the corner slowly clapping
"Omg!" Zaniya says & runs towards us
My mom pushes Zaniya & we all look at the ring
I look at Nate
"I love you so much Nate" I say
He rubs my cheek
"I love you too..I'll make sure nothing ever happens to you." He says
He pecks my lips & my mom throws rose petals on us..
I giggle & Nate giggles..
Ugh his smile & giggle is so cute!....
