Lockdown

4:33pm

Damien took a step towards me. He had a bland look on his face, like he was thinking of what to say. And then, he held out the small object in his hand. I got a better look at it.

Small. Like an eraser. Black. With a small, red button on it.

Oh crap.

Damien grinned, nodding, like he knew what I was thinking. "Cool, right?"

"You... You... That's for bombs!" I hissed.

He clapped my shoulder, almost knocking me over. "Good for you, Robin Wayne."

And then I heard a phone ring.

That same ring I heard earlier in the library.

Riiinnnngggg....

Riiinnngggg....

I looked at Damien, who held his hand out. "You do the honors, survivor."

I looked down at his hand and picked up the small remote detonator. I very much wanted to push the button. Don't ask me why. It just seemed... Fitting. After all that's happened, pushing the button would save me.

Guess I should have listened to my soul.

Because I heard a loud voice, booming, "POLICE! DROP YOUR WEAPONS!"

But it was too late.

I had already pushed the button.
