Harry Potter, in his 3rd year, found the initials JP carved into his bedpost. He was so tired he simply brushed it off as nothing, wondering
'Who is JP?'
One day, out of the blue, Remus mentioned to Harry that one evening the Marauders had eaten dinner in the kitchen. Mentioning that James decided that they would carve their initials into their bedposts, that way they would leave a memory of their time in Hogwarts behind.
Harry walked into the dorm he shared with Neville, Ron, Seamus, and Dean, sat on his bed and traced the outline of the initials. He was overjoyed to finally have a physical reminder that his father was living and breathing and not just a faded memory.
