As Charlie climbed down the stairs, he didn't look back, afraid that he might turn around and go back to Jane.
He had kissed her head before leaving. It was her lips that he yearned for the most, but he hadn't kissed her.
Charlie felt like Jane would've stopped him if he did. He wasn't sure why though.
Maybe she was trying to make it easier that way.
He sighed as he reached the end of the stairs and paused at the bottom. He had his hand clenched on the railing but for a while he didn't move.
And then Charlie turned towards the exit, even after everything inside him screamed and told him to do otherwise.
