"It's not in the stars to hold our Destiny but in ourselves
-William Shakespeare
----------------------------------

Three small knocks pulled me out of my slumber. I waited for a second to make sure I wasn't imagining the knocks but then there were three more. Slowly, I got up from my bed and walked over to my window and opened my curtains. Shawn was there smiling at me.

"Open your window." He whispered. I unlocked it and slid it open for him to enter.

"Since when did you start locking your window?" He questioned fixing his pajama pants and hoodie.

"Since you stopped coming over through my window.. and when you stopped coming over in general." I answered crossing my arms over my chest.

The wind blew through the ajar window and it made me wish I was wearing a bra at that moment. I was taking caution.

"I'm really sorry about that. ." He replied scratching the back of his neck.

"So what do you want? It's almost four in the morning."

"Do you want to watch the sun rise with me?"

I glanced around my semi-dark room then back to him.

"Let me put a bra on."

The stars were still out but they were slowly fading. Shawn and I laid on his roof and gazed upward, no one spoke for awhile but Shawn was the first one to break the silence.

"Y/n, the real reason I asked you to come up here was because I needed someone to talk to and you were the first one I thought of. You're like, the only one who truly knows me and understands me." Shawn sat up and ran a hand through his hair.

"Well, we were best friends once upon a time." I said sitting up as well.

"I still consider you my best friend." He whispered.

"Shawn, Are you okay? Is something on your mind?" I was starting to worry.

"There's just so much on my mind. Like, the future and how people will react to me telling them what I want to do with my future." Shawn sighed in frustration.

"Go on." I encouraged.

"I want to pursue music. I want my music to help people overcome their problems. I know it's farfetched and stupid but this is what I really want." He stared up at the stars again.

"Maybe if I wish on the stars hard enough. . . It will happen." His voice was hoarse and his eyes glossed over.

"Shawn. . . Look at me." Reluctantly he gazed into my eyes.

"If that's what you want, then do it. Don't let anyone stop you. Don't wish on the stars... start wishing on yourself."
