Chapter Three
Point of view: Amy
What? Where am I? It's soo cold.
I quickly rolled over and stifled a scream when I rolled against someone.
"Good Morning. You slept a lot." Damien's voice brought it all back to me. The fight. The cell. The concussion.
"Yeah? Do you know how long I've been out?" I asked urgency filling my voice.
"Hmmm. Almost twenty four hours. Does your head still hurt?" Damien replied calmly ignoring my freaked-outness.
Well now that he mentions it my head does hurt a little bit...just a dull pain though not anything close to what I felt the other time I woke up. Oh. I guess I should answer him.
"Nah, not that badly. A million times better than last time I woke up. It's freezing though. Don't you think someone could turn a heater on?" I asked and rubbed my hands together to try and warm them up.
"Oh, sorry about that princess. I took MY jacket back when you were out. I figured I needed it more and well it's--" Nate said sounding extremely sarcastic and pissed. I could feel Damien get up and place my head softly on the ground.
I could sense Damien walking over to Nate thanks to years of being on constant guard. By the way he continued being rude to me I could tell Nate had no idea what was going on.
Sure enough before he could finish his string of insults I heard the sound of a fist connecting with skull and the muttered 'umf' when Nate's head and self hit the ground.
"Let's see how much he likes being knocked out..." Damien muttered to himself.
A few seconds later I heard some rustling sounds and Damien's footsteps coming back to our side of the cell.
"For you," Damien said gallantly.
"Thanks, but you must be freezing too. I have been uhm, sleeping on you and absorbing all your warmth for the past...however long you said it has been." I pointed out stubbornly. I'm not a charity case. Sure, it was a nice offer but once someone offers you something they're going to expect something in return. Always.
"No, my pleasure; honestly." Damien said not relenting.
I got off the floor as silently as I could and backed to the corner farthest away from both of them. I don't care if Nate's currently unconscious, he's going to be extremely pissed when he wakes up.
"I can tell you move...wow I don't even know your name." Damien said sounding like he was guilty of committing a crime or something.
"Amy," I replied quietly while wondering where my switch blade went.
"Pretty name," Damien said and I could hear the smile in his voice.
"Thanks. And thanks for all your help. Your a life saver, literally." I said to Damien after gathering up a bunch of courage. I. Don't. Owe. Him. I told myself mentally.
"No problem. I'm not going to leave you to fend for yourself. Oh I have your switchblade by the way." Damien said calmly I could hear the 'click' of the switchblade sliding into the plastic casing and the sound of it flying through the air towards me moments later. I caught it one handed after homing in on the sound.
"Thanks. Nice aim." I said complementing Damien.
"No problem. And good catch." Damien said moments later.
"Well I'm still tired so goodnight again. Or morning. I'm not sure what time of day it is anymore." I said and rested my head against the wall so I could fall asleep.
"Night Amy. I'll make sure Nate stays away from you." Damien promised and I drifted off into a beautiful dreamless painless sleep.
