The Second Step
It goes on
the ticking clock in the background
the beat of my helpless heart
to the pulse of the Earth.
I fear the next turn
should the ground open up
for my fall down the fathomless abyss
to the inescapable never.
But the journey ahead beckons
rewards need reaping
and I've sworn to fulfill
a legacy worth living.
With my bated breath
I take the second step
into the calling future
into the promise of Light.
