Chapter 13: The First Task

Start from the beginning

He smiled. I looked at him, confused, but just smiled back, waved, and ran towards the door. As I opened it, I was face-to-face with a pale skined boy with olive green eyes who was slightly taller than me. He was wearing a black shirt and jeans with a skull ring inserted on his finger. His hair was as messy as ever, and his startled face still charming.

"Nico," I breathed, slightly tensing up.

"S-Shadow," he said, overcoming his slight shock, "I was just going to pick you up to well, have, you know, breakfast." He smirked after that.

I looked confused and turned around to Dumbledore, who was smiling and had the expression that said, "*Sigh*. Young love".

I turned back to Nico and linked our arms.

"C'mon, let's go eat some breakfast," I said, smiling, and closed the door behind us.

How do you suppose he knew? Damn that old man, what he does is a nuisance sometimes.

I chocked a laugh at the thought of it.

~Percy's POV~

Aw, goddamnit. Sundays might be my unlucky days because 1) I woke up sort of wet on the floor, 2) I realized it was my drool, and 3) everyone left me, 4) we ran out of food when I got to the Great Hall, 5) my head keeps throbbing, and finally, 6) Harry's first task is on Tuesday.

Gawd, this is so fun isn't it? First you wake up feeling sick, then there's nothing to eat, and finally you find out that your friend is about to get killed in 2 days. This is just, wow. Such a fun year in Hogwarts, eh? Note my sarcasm.

I found Annabeth and the others happily eating their food in the Great Hall about half an hour ago. Now, I was just sitting with them here, drooling over their food, and drinking my pumpkin juice, which is the only thing I'll have for breakfast.

I watched all the other students walk by in slow motion since my head was starting to throb again. Then, my eyes caught on Shadow and Nico who were walking and laughing together, holding hands, and just enjoying the moment.

I looked at Annabeth who was now reading a book about the history of Hogwarts and thought about how we used to be like that back in the old days. We were both laughing and teasing eachother. And I thought about that epic underwater kiss we had back when we defeated the Titan, Kronos.

I sighed at the thought of it. I just wish this would be over and everything would get back to normal. Also, I don't like seeing Harry freak out everytime he gets reminded of the Triwizard Tournament. I couldn't get him to avoid that though.

The memory of seeing those things with Hagrid and Harry that night flashed through my mind. And the words of Harry's godfather, Sirius Black, repeated itself in my brain, "...I can't help thinking the tournament would be a very good way to attack you and make it look like an accident."

There's gonna be another fight this year.

And for Harry to survive, first, he has to deal with dragons.

*Tuesday Morning in the contest*

~Harry's POV~

So, it turns out I picked the Hungarian  Horntail. Great, now I'm just going to get torn into pieces by this brutal dragon thing? You know, I was hoping to get beat up by a gentle, nice unicorn, and maybe I would die without any bitter memories.

I looked outside the tent and saw that Viktor Krum was about to finish. Then, I looked back at my lap and wanted to puke.

See?! I haven't even made my will yet! I don't even have my Bucket List!

I stood up and took several deep breaths. I heard the whistle blow. I walked out through the entrance of the tent, the panic rising into a crescendo inside me. And now, I was walking past the trees, through a gap in the enclousured fence.

I saw everything infront of me as though it was a very highly colored dream. There were hundreds and hundreds of faces staring down at me from the stands that had been magicked there since I'd last stood on his spot. And there was the Horntail, at the other end of enclousure, crouched low over her clutch of legs, her wings half-furled, her evil, yellow eyes upon me, a monstrous, scaly, black lizard, thrashing her spiked tail, leaving yard-long gouge marks on the ground. The crowd was making a great deal of noise, but whether friendly or not, I didn't know or care. It was time to do what I had to do... to focus my mind, entirely, and absolutely, upon the thing that was my only chance.

"Accio Firebolt!" I shouted.

Well guys, this is it.
