"The past is there behind you and nothing is forever."

I woke up to an empty bed. Riley wasn't at my side.

I didn't want to leave her alone at the hospital, but she insisted that I went home to nap. Her parents went home a couple hours after I did.

I threw on regular clothes and started rushing around to get myself presentable. Once I finished, I ran into the kitchen. I entered so quickly that I almost missed the guy sitting down at the table.

It was Shawn. He was sitting drinking a cup of coffee.

"I was wondering when you were going to get up," He chuckled, "From the way you napped it seemed like you were the one who was having the baby."

I ran over to him and hugged him a tight as I possibly could. I never got my chance to say anything to Shawn before he died.

He chuckled, "I've missed you too buddy."

"How? How is this possible right now? Am I dreaming?" I shook myself, trying to wake up.

"This is as real as you having a kid."

"But how?"

"I'll tell you the same thing I told Riley. You risk everything you have for the one's you love."

"I thought that I'd never see you again."

"I thought maybe you could use some help getting ready for Kian. From what I've already seen thought makes it seem like you've got everything together."

"Yeah. I will say that I was really nervous at the beginning, but now I'm ready for him. I just want to hold him and show him how the world is."

"I have all the faith in the world that you and Riley will make great parents. I've seen the way you love Riley and I've seen the way she loves you. Kian will never have to doubt if his parents love him."

"Thank you."

"I could only wish that I would have had you guys as parents."

I found myself watching Shawn get emotional.

"Do you see your dad?" I asked.

"Everyday," He smiled, "We have these long conversation together and it is like we never lost touch."

"That's good."

"But I have some advice for you about being a dad. Kids are going to walk in and out of your life and your job is to show them they aren't alone. Now I'm not saying you need to become their legal guardian, you just need to be there for them. Whether that means making them dinner, listening to their problems, helping them with their homework, giving them a shoulder to cry on or following them around the world for their world tours."

The last part was for Maya.

"I don't even want to think about what my life was like before Maya came into my life. She changed me for the better. If the only thing I can leave behind on this earth is Maya and her friends, I'm glad that it's you guys."

He wiped away the small tears that were forming in the corners of his eyes.

"Anyway I think it's time I go. You've got a baby ready to come out and I've got some more people to see."

I gave him one final hug before he walked out the door. I watched him walk towards the end of the hallway and begin disappearing. He turned around just before he was almost gone and waved.

And just like that he disappeared.
