"Dreams say a lot about a person."

I stayed up last night listening to the rain hit everything outside. When it stopped I tried to fall asleep, but I couldn't get Maya off my mind. A few times I almost got up to comfort her from the storm. I remembered then that it wasn't my place to do so.
It felt weird knowing that she was next door and that we were now roommates.
My thoughts kept me up half of the night and when I did fall asleep it was only for a few moments before a nightmare woke me up. I would try to fall asleep again, but I just ended up having another nightmare.
Once it was light out I decided that it was okay for me to come out of my room. Maya was probably still sleeping, because it was only seven.
When I opened my door Jerry came running up to me. He wouldn't stop rubbing in between my legs so I picked him up.
I whispered, "Okay Jerry we have to be very quiet so that we don't wake up Maya."
"To late," Maya said.
She was sitting at the table eating a bowl of cereal. She was still in her pajamas from last night.
"Why are you up so early?" I asked.
She got up and put her bowl into the dishwasher.
"I was up every morning at six to do yoga in rehab. Whenever I got back I kept the routine of getting up early," She explained.
Maya never seemed like someone who would do yoga early in the morning.
"Why are you up so early?" She asked.
I lied, "Time zones."
She nodded believing what I said.
"Are you hungry? We have some cereal, frozen waffles, fruit, pancake mix and probably a ton of other stuff."
"I just have a bowl of cereal."
"Are you sure? It's your first morning back in California so I can make you pancakes if you want."
The memories of me trying to make Maya pancakes came back. She kept on yelling at me for spilling the batter everywhere. Once she took over our pancakes looked great.
"Lucas?" She asked, snapping me back.
"I'm sorry. What?"
"I asked if you wanted some pancakes and then you blanked on me."
"Oh right. Sure."
-
Once Maya finished making the pancakes she sat down at the table with me. She drank a hot chocolate while I ate the pancakes.
"So are you planning on staying in California?" She asked.
"Yup," I nodded my head.
I had no where else to go now.
"Are you still doing to be a vet?"
"That's the goal."
"Where are you going to take classes at?"
"The same place I took classes at before."
She nodded her head and went back to sipping her hot chocolate.
"If you needed a place a live I know this girl whose best friend just moved out, I think she needs a roommate," Maya said.
"Would the girl who needs a roommate happen to be short with blonde hair?"
"She also has blue eyes."
"I think I'll take her up on that offer."

Lucas is back and he is officially staying forever. And now he gets to be roommates with Maya.
