The Other Side: The Awakening.

Chapter Sixteen: What The Demon Wants.

CHAPTER SIXTEEN. 

Suzanne stood outside of Evangeline Winters' house. The setting sun made the sky orange. Suzanne rang the doorbell.

Evangeline's nurse opened the door. 

'She's been expecting you,' the nurse said.

Suzanne walked inside. The nurse led her to Evangeline's room. The woman sat in her wheelchair, looking at Suzanne. Her face seemed older and her grey hair was thinning. 

'Suzanne, thank goodness you're here!' Mrs. Winters said. 

Suzanne walked up to her and clasped her hands. 'Are you okay?'

'Yes, I actually have seizures often,' Evangeline assured. 'I don't understand why you fainted along with me, though.'

'The doctors said I was just stressed because you had collapsed.'

Mrs. Winters shook her head. 'Don't always believe a doctor. I'm sure the demon was the cause of that.'

'Mrs. Winters,' Suzanne began. 'Why is this thing after me?'

'Sit down, dear.' Evangeline motioned to the chair in the corner of the room. 

Suzanne sat and Evangeline rolled her wheelchair infront of her. 

'Tell me, dear. What do you call the Demon?'

'I just refer to it as the Mirror Demon,' Suzanne replied. 'I read online that you can banish a demon to Hell if you call it by its name. Is that true?'

'Yes, it can work,' Evangeline answered. 'But there's one problem...the Demon has no name.' 

Suzanne's eyes widened. 'What?'

'Are you familiar with the legend of Pandora?' Evangeline asked. 

Suzanne nodded. 'She opened a box that held all the evils in the world. When she opened it, all evils were set free.'

'Yes,' Evangeline said. 'The evils that were freed were released in the form of Demons. They wrecked havoc in the world. They were led by the most powerful one of all--the one you refer to as the Mirror Demon. However, the Gods saw this and trapped the Demon within the Other Side, a dimension behind the mirror. Without a leader, the evils were weakened, and thus the havoc minimized...although there was no possible way to recapture the evils.'

'What does all this have to do with the Demon haunting us?'

'The Demon is forever trapped between the two realms. Yes, it can leave the mirror realm, but it cannot stay in the real world for long periods of time.'

'That's why it possesses people,' Suzanne said in thought.

Evangeline nodded. 'The Demon was the Devil's favorite creation. When it was trapped, Satan managed to carve an incantation into the mirror realm. Should the words be spoken, the demon would be allowed to leave the mirror realm.'

'Those were the words Kat spoke that released it,' Suzanne gasped.

'Yes, the Gods saw this act and made another incantation. One that would re-banish the Demon to the mirror realm. However, the spell required sacrifice.'

'Kat did that one year ago. When she dies, she'll be the Demon's slave,' Suzanne explained. 'But now the Demon is back. The spell didn't work.'

'Someone must have found the book and read the words. That's why the Demon is free again,' Mrs Winters concluded.

'Then why isn't the Demon haunting that person?!' Suzanne knew she was being selfish for wishing the Demon would stalk someone else, but she couldn't help it.

Evangeline grabbed hold of Suzanne's hands. Suzanne knew that what was coming next was important.

'If a child is conceived by the Demon, It will be able to enter the child and become whole.'

Suzanne jumped up. 'What?' she whispered.

'That's why I killed my baby,' Evangeline said, her eyes becoming teary. 'The Demon wants to impregnate you, Suzanne.'

'No that can't be it,' Suzanne said, trying hard not to believe what she was hearing. 'If It wanted to do that, it would've already had too many opportunities.' 

'It cannot just take you like that,' Mrs. Winters shook her head. 'You must first go through the stages of the ritual. Three specific evils that were released must first show themselves to you.'

'What do you mean by that?' Suzanne asked.

'These three Demons are the worst ones. They cause the souls of their victims to be banished from Heaven. The three Demons must show their true forms to you before the ritual.'

'What are the Demons? I haven't seen any other Demons.'

'Maybe you haven't...but you have probably sensed their presence.'

'What evils do they cause?'

Mrs. Winters began, 'The first Demon to show itself will be Suicidium, known as Suicide.'

Suzanne let out a tiny squeal of surprise. 

'I feel that you have sensed or seen the Demon?' Evangeline said.

'My friend Caleb jumped off a building...' Suzanne trailed off. She remembered Caleb telling her he was killing himself for her.

'The second Demon will be Furor, or Insanity. The third is a bit complicated. The one chosen, you, will have to summon the third--Caedes, referred to as Murder. After the ritual, you will have to murder someone of your choosing.'

'So if I choose not to kill anyone, does that mean--'

Suzanne's sentence was cut by Evangeline's. 'Caedes is very compelling. It will fill you with such rage that you will kill someone.'

'Trust me, there's no way that I would actually kill anyone--'

'You'd be surprised at what you will do when the time comes,' Mrs. Winters said. 

'Is there any way that I can stop this from happening?' Suzanne asked.

'Maybe if you stop the three Demons. Suicide has already shown Itself, and Murder will arrive until after the ritual. Your only hope is to stop Insanity before it strikes.'

'But how can I know who Insanity is targeting? Its not like...' Suzanne stopped her sentence halfway. 'Oh my God.'

'What?' Evangeline asked.

'Brian,' was all Suzanne could whisper before getting up and running out of the house.

That's why Suzanne had gotten the feeling of Cassandra's impending death. That's why Brian was acting so differently. Insanity had been targeting him. Brian was going to go crazy and probably kill Cass. She had to stop him before it was too late.

Hiiiii!!! How's it going? How was the chapter?

At least now we know the Mirror Demon's origin and what it wants from Suzanne. This also explains why Caleb committed suicide.
