"What about your father?"
"I've never met him. He took off when I was really young."
My mom gave some fake sympathetic apology.
"Well I need more wine," My dad interrupted, getting up and pouring more wine in his glass.
"Maya do you not like red wine? Would you rather have white wine?" My mom asked.
Maya replied, "No. I don't drink anymore."
"Anymore?"
"I spent five months in rehab and I've been sober ever since then."
My dad laughed.
"Knock it off dad," I scoffed.
He laughed again, "Man you sure no how to pick them. A drunk with no parents. I think you could have done much better."
I couldn't take it anymore. I looked over at Maya who was just staring down at her bowl of pasta.
"How dare you? How dare you talk to her like that? Maya is the most caring and thoughtful girl in the world she doesn't deserve anyone talking to her like that," I spat, standing up.
"I can't help that you picked out some girl that can't control herself whenever alcohol is near her. I knew you would never end up with some girl that would amount to anything."
"No dad your wrong! You think you know everything, but you don't!"
My dad stood up as well. He hit the table slightly and knocked most of the glasses over.
My father snarled, "I will not be spoken to like this in my own house!"
"Maya is the most caring person that I have ever met. When I am with Maya she makes me feel like I'm on cloud 9. I will not stand here a listen to you talk to the girl I'm in love with so disrespectfully."
"Love? You honestly expect me to believe that you love this girl, because I don't," My dad shouted.
I replied, "It's a good thing that I stopped caring about what you thought a long time ago. I knew coming here was a mistake. And do you know what sucks the most I thought that after you lost both of your kids you would have changed, I guess I was wrong."
I held out my hand for Maya. She took my hand and I helped her get up.
I couldn't even image what was running through her head. My parents had spent all of dinner pointing out every flaw she had.
"Come on Maya we should get going," I said.
"I'd like to say I had a nice time here, but that would be a lie," Maya replied, throwing her napkin on the table.
Maya and I walked towards the door leaving my parents at the door. I walked out the door with Maya in my hand and didn't look back. I was never coming back here again. Coming here was a mistake and I knew that, but I wanted things to be different.

So I am currently in Philly visiting my cousins and it has been snowing for hours. The house is just surrounded in snow. I won't be able to go home for a while so I will most likely be able to update this book a couple more times.
