chapter 19

Minette left Luke and I in a big bedroom on our own. "So? What now?" Luke asked

"Well..." we were both standing there staring at the bed infront of us "maybe we should stack pillows in between us?"I asked hesitantly

"What??" Luke started laughing loudly, he didn't stop, he just continued laughing for about 7 minutes

"What's so funny?" I asked staring at him

"Kate. this. isn't. a. movie" he managed to spit out in between laughs

I stared at him "what makes you think I think it's a movie?" He didn't answer and just continued to laugh "Luke?!"

He stopped laughing and looked at me "well, if it was a movie it would make sense why you want to stack pillows between us but Kate, we both know you are a rough sleeper and pillows aren't going to help"

"I guess you're right but atleast I tried to find a solution" I looked at the bed again "why would Minette give us a double bed?"

"Maybe we should just try it, or atleast for tonight"

Luke and I are both lying on the bed, we haven't left this room once since we stepped in and everyone assumes we are fast asleep but we are actually wide awake

"Kate?"

"Yeah?"

"Did you have a boyfriend when your parents forced you to marry me?" He asked

I turned to face him "no, why?"

"I was just curious" he looked at me with his  blue eyes

"Oh, did you have a girlfriend?" I asked

"No, I never had a relationship that lasted longer than a night" I started to laugh at what he said

"You were a-"

"Yes Kate, I was" he interrupted me

"I did not know that" I said failing to hold back a giggle

"Well, you would also be of you had my life" he paused for a second and the second I opened my mouth to speak he continued "you could've had so many guys, Daniel, Christopher Black, basically anyone would've fell head over heels for you Kate, almost exactly like they did in school"

"Nobody liked me in school, Luke" I failed to hold back a yawn

"Oh, all the guys loved you, the only reason noone ever made a move was because of Chase Camberwell who apparently had full claim on you"

"I only ever spoke to Chase once in all of my years with him" I said shocked at the news he just gave me "but atleast I know your hate was real"

"Yeah" he said hesitantly

"Right?" I asked

"Not really, I did like you for a long time but that's over now" he said before he let out a yawn and turned around so that his back faced me

"Luke"

He hummed in response

"What do you mean 'a life like yours'?"

"I'm really tired, can we talk about it some other time?" He barely whispered

I woke up with the feel of someone tugging on my blanket. I opened my eyes slowly and saw Amelia's eyes staring back at me. "Morning Amelia, what are you doing here?" I asked the little girl

"I can't sleep, I had a nightmawe" she said in a cute voice

"Oh ok, do you want to sleep here with us?" I asked the girl who looks exactly like my sister looked

"Pwease" she said

I picked her up and put her on the bed in between Luke and I. As I put her down I saw Luke's eyes opening

"Kate?" He asked

"Luke, Amelia is going to sleep here with us for the rest of the night because she can't sleep" he just nodded and closed his eyes

I looked at Amelia who's eyes were also closed. I lay tgere awake for five minutes which turned into ten minutes which quickly turned into an hour, I looked at the clock next to my bed and saw that it was 3:50am

I stood up and made my way to the kitchen where I found Minette. "Hey" I greeted her

"Hi, what are you doing up?" She asked

"Well your daughter came into our room and woke me up, I couldn't sleep after that" I said "why are you up?"

"I couldn't sleep, sorry about Amelia"

"It's fine" I looked at her as she suddenly jumped up and walked to the fridge

"Are you up for milk and cookies like when we were little?" She askedas she placed the milk on the counter and headed to the cupboard to grab two glasses and the cookies.

We have been sitting here- eating cookies, talking and drinking milk for about an hour.

"Really? Well how did you and M.S meet?" I asked her after she told me about how she managed all the years without her parents.

"Well basically after mom and dad left I went over to the neighbours and told them the whole story about how messed up they were, the neighbours looked after me till I was 19 and they took me out for lunch on my nineteenth birthday, there was this really cute waiter but he was a little too short for my liking, so this waiter and I went on a date but it didn't work out so we decided to stay friends so I went back to his apartment after the date, literally just to play video games and his roommate, was M.S"she told, she looked so happy as she remembered the story

"That's so nice, I  can see you two really love each other" I mentioned

"And I can see Luke really loves you Kate, he seems like a nice guy, why don't you give him a chance, but a real one?" She seemed serious

"I just met my long lost sister and she tells me to give some guy a chance" I laugh
