Chapter Twenty-One

Megan's POV

Ugh, is that insufferable blond snapping his fingers again? Wait, he is! I was instantly lost in a whirl of color, and hot wind blasted on my face like a warm breath. I couldn't focus, I was getting dizzy. I couldn't make out anything other than the blurry black shapes of what I assumed to be Erik and Lucas. I was reminded of the time Gabriella had dared me to go on a roller coaster, the one that she knew I wouldn't be able to stand. It had so many dips and swirls I couldn't see straight. I was about to shake my head no, no way was I going to ride that one, but she bet me ten dollars that I wouldn't ride it. So, I had gritted my teeth and waited fifteen minutes in the twisting line, surrounded by hot and sweaty people. When I finally got on the ride, the guy who was running the roller coaster pulled my seat belt tight, and I could feel his sweaty hands near my face. When it finally started up, I looked down at him, and he grinned and gunned the coaster to its first big loop. Needless to say, the ride was so not worth ten bucks.

The wind whooshed past me, and I wobbled a few times, but I managed to stay upright on the uneven cobblestone. I took in my surroundings, eying the beautiful arches that graced most of the marble buildings. Intricate carvings and statues littered the street, and the biting wind chilled me to my core. Why couldn't the weather just settle down for a little bit? Well, not like much of the world is listening right now. I looked up and noticed with awe that little droplets of white fell gently down from the snow-laden clouds that hung above me. One landed on my nose, melting instantly. The water trickled down towards my mouth and I laughed delightedly.

"Look, it's snowing, Erik!"

He looked up at the mention of his name. "I am quite aware of that." he said quickly, with a hint of annoyance. Well, gosh, what had gotten his panties in a twist?

"We should probably move. Wouldn't want to get run over, now, would we?" said Lucas cheerfully. Yeah, that would be a good idea. I followed him and Erik into an alley, the shadows helping to conceal us a bit. The sun that had rested in the middle of the sky just a moment ago at the beach was now barely peaking over the horizon, its last few feeble rays giving the Paris streets a coat of golden light. I shivered slightly as a puff of wind rolled past me. I examined the toes of my once-white, now tined slightly brown combat boots. They looked ridiculous with- oh my God, I was still wearing my freaking bikini!

"Umm, Erik? Any chance I could get some actual clothes?" I asked sarcastically. He jumped, startled from examining what appeared to be some sort of paper, and looked at me. His face flushed slightly.

"Yes, that could be arranged. Lucas! Go find Megan some...suitable clothing."

Lucas grinned goofily and bounded away. I was left alone with Erik, the chill still clawing at my skin. Goosebumps appeared on me as I tried in vain to warm myself up. I looked at Erik, who had gone back to giving googly-eyes to the sheet of paper in his hands. I jumped on tip-toe and snatched it from is hands.

"Watcha lookin' at, Erik, hmm?" I said.

"Give that back!" he said childishly. I shook my head and pranced around, waving the map above my head. I turned around and to look back at him, and realized that he was staring at me, apparently unamused.

"God, what does a girl have to do to have some fun around here?" I said, frowning at him.

"Give me back the map. It's vital to our survival!"

I laughed, doubled over. "'survival?!'" I repeated, tears of laughter escaping my eyes, "You make it sound like we could die at the drop of a hat!"
