the young boy stays on the sidelines
wild, confused, a little bit scared
a blossoming youth of fifteen with
blue braces stuck to his teeth
of Asian descent, he smells of the oriental
he says he wants to fit in with everyone
but doesn't really know where to begin

the boy was a born peacemaker,
a seat filler, the odd number to the even
gets invited to movies and games whenever
the popular Americans need someone
to be the designated driver to their drunks
the boy doesn't mind, he likes the role
never really in the group but somewhere
in the lines of an acquaintance or a friend
a thin attachment just to survive high school

he smokes marijuana, gets high on coke
still manages to get straights As, 4.0 GPA
going for Ivy league colleges and girls
