Chapter 3

I patiently waited the arrival of the doctor who was going to try and help me with my memory loss. I paced my room back and forth occasionally stopping to look out the window. The kids and the parent had left at some point between me meeting Damen and getting told this wonderous news. I hear a light knocking on the door and someone clears their throat. I turn to see a little man that was almost completely bald wearing glasses and wearing a lab coat. To be honest, he looked kind of creepy - ok a lot. He introduced himself but I was too excited that I did not take in a word he said. I went and sat down on my bed, while he pulled up a rolling chair and sat in front of me but leaving some space. First, he talked why we were here which was just wasting time. I knew why he was there, and I just wanted him to get on with it! I sat on my hands to hold my anxious energy in when he finally started asking me questions.

"OK Bella, is there anything from your past that you can remember. Even if it is the smallest of things. Before you woke up here in the hospital?" Said the little man. I looked at the breast pocket of his lab coat and found that his name tag said Jim, but I prefer to call him little man secretly to myself. "Well, all that I can remember is standing in this big green forest, just standing there" You would think this would be in a file or something. He had a notepad and pen and starting jotting things down. I tried to see what he was writing, but he kept it at an angle where you couldn't. I continued "I don't know if it was real or not, just like I told Doctor Tyler earlier." I say with a little bit of attitude to my voice, me sounding like a broken record at this point repeating the same small information that I can recall from before today." I thought back to my encounter in the hallway and decided not to mention that Damen looked sort of familiar to me. For all I know my brain was just excited to see a face of someone my age. Wait- I still don't know why Damen was in the hospital anyways, so don't want to bring him up since I wasn't sure if he should have even been there in the first place.

"Ok, do you remember any faces or markings anywhere in the forest?" The little man asked with a quizzical expression on his face. Did he miss the only other part of that situation? I was alone. In a forest. Aren't doctors supposed to be smarter than this. Right as I'm about to give a nicer response to what I'm thinking, an image pops into my head! Thinking back, I now remember that I did see a carving on one of the trees that was near me. "Well – no, sorry I can't remember anything." I thought about telling him what I just remembered but I don't trust him, yet. The way he is looking intensely at me with his pen pushing down into his paper I thought to keep it to myself. At least for the time being that is. Apparently, I have trust issues, but who could blame the girl without a memory. Who knows, all I know is that there is something fishy about him and I'm going to find out what it is.

He goes on to ask some pretty boring and lack luster questions. For example, what is my favourite colour? Favourite season, favourite holiday, and questions of that nature. Here I thought I was finally going to crack the seal and start figuring out exactly who I am, but no. What does surprise me is that when he did ask these questions I answered them right away, without hesitation. So maybe this can help in the long run. I learned that my favourite colour is blue, I prefer Autumn, and I like Thanksgiving. So, I guess this wasn't for nothing. I just hope we get to chat again and maybe dig a little deeper into who I am.

"It was very nice to chat with you today, Bella," Jim said with a turtle like smile, "hopefully we can figure out more about who you are and your past in the next while." Good, this means that they plan on having me talk to him again I'm assuming. I nearly called him little man as I was saying goodbye but caught myself and stuttered out Jim. Looks like I have a way with words?
