Chapter Eight: Sick Fish

I rubbed my eyes as I slowly woke up, another boring day of the holidays. I looked out my window and saw it was raining quite heavily 

"Well, I guess I'm stuck inside today" I shrugged sitting up

"Morning Chai" I called out stretching out, no response 

"Chai?" I called out again, still nothing

"Must still be asleep" I thought sitting up to go and have a look just to make sure

"Chai you awa-" I froze when I got in the bathroom, there was vomit all over the floor and Chai was lying in the bathtub extremely pale

"Oh my god..." I said quietly extremely shocked, I quickly got on my knees and shook Chai 

"Chai? Chai wake up" I said panicked, his eyes opened lazily and he looked at me 

"Bry... Bry I don't feel good..." he mumbled his voice hoarse and weak 

"I'm going to call Shelby just wait one second" I said quickly getting out of the bathroom to grab my phone, I quickly pressed her number and she picked up after 3 rings 

"Shelb I need you to come over quick" I panicked into the phone

"Why what's the matter?" She asked

"Chai has a really high temp, he's extremely pale and he's thrown up everywhere " I replied looking back into the bathroom where I saw Chai's chest was heaving as if he was having trouble getting a full breath

"Ok I'll be right over just stay with him" she replied and hung up. I put my phone on my bed and then walked into the bathroom to lean down near Chai

"Come on Chai just keep breathing Shelby will be here soon" I said calmly taking his hand

"I-I don't feel... feel good" he replied looking at me with glazed eyes

"I know it's gonna be ok she'll be here soon and she'll figure out what's wrong with you" I replied rubbing his hand. He continued heaving and sweating and I knew I had to do something. I leaned forwards and rubbed his chest and stomach hoping it would increase the oxygen flow at least until Shelby got here

"Shhh... just breath Chai you're gonna be fine" I encouraged him

"Bry... Bry I'm scared" he whimpered with a tear running down his cheek

"You don't need to be scared, you're gonna be fine" I replied still rubbing his chest is. I heard the front door open and Shelby ran into the bathroom

"What's wrong?" She asked grabbing out her stethoscope

"He's really not well" I replied with a worried look. She put the stethoscope to chest and listened

"Lean him forwards" she said and I nodded. I pulled him forward so he had his head rested on my shoulder as Shelby put the stethoscope to his back

"His airways sound clear but he still is struggling to breath..." Shelby mumbled biting her lip. She looked him over and stopped when she got to his tail

"His... His tail feels dry" she said with a confused voice feeling his tail

"What?" I replied just as confused

"Feel" she replied and I put my hand on his tail, it felt dry and rough even though it was under the water

"What?" I questioned, then Shelby snapped her fingers

"I got it!" She exclaimed

"What is it?" I asked

"He must be having a salt water deficiency or something, he's been in fresh water for too long" she replied

"But I put salt in the water" I replied 

"I'm guessing you put kitchen salt in" Shelby said crossing her arms

"Yeah...?" I replied 

"He needs pure sea salt, I'll go get some buckets of water from the beach empty the bath and clean the floor" Shelby said walking out, I quickly pulled the plug out draining the water from the bath 

"What are you doing?" Chai asked 

"Just changing the water" I replied 

"Why is this happening?" He asked holding his torso 

"Don't worry Chai you're going to be fine just trust me" I replied firmly

"Ok..." he nodded 

When I finished this part the word count was 666

Any way sorry if this is boring I actually wrote this part MONTHS ago before I even starting writing the story it was just a small thing I came up with when I was bored
