slowly, a pair of eyes opened. those eyes stared upwards at the ceiling above them. their toes and fingers wiggled slightly. they remembered this soft, comfortable feeling. this was their bed at their home. not at Beacon. the person wondered. what happened? why were they here now? what was this crushing feeling in their soul? why did their heart feel so heavy? why did their head hurt so much? why was their eyes watering with fresh tears even though they don't remember what had transpired?
they wondered. wondered for a short while. they truly had no idea. but luckily for them, their questions would soon be answered.
"Ruby? Ruby!" a voice emerged. relief, concern, a mix of emotions behind just those two words. the person recognised this voice..it was.. "oh thank Oum."
"dad?" she weakly spluttered. her throat was dry, god she needed water. and she needed it now. as long as she can mutter just that one word.. "water..."
"ok just relax. i'll be right back." Ruby;s unfocused gaze watched as the man stood up and quickly left the room. she blinked in an effort to focus her gaze.
at first it didn't work. but with enough blinking, the hazy and blurriness began to fade and gave way to a clear, concise and focused look. her head throbbed. it hurt so badly, what happened to her? all she remembered was seeing (Y/n) holding something in his hand, Cinder standing over him with a bow and arrow then just....white. a pure brightness. but then after that white, it was replaced with a sinking darkness.
the blurriness returned when her eyes suddenly flared up in pain. yet she was too weak to even manage a grunt. all she managed was gritted teeth and a silent hiss. moving a single hand up, Ruby massaged her eyes, hoping that would remove some of the sudden pain. it did, yet it didn't go away in full.
her father had returned with a glass of water. Ruby went to pick it up herself and drink it, but her dad decided he would aid her instead. so, helping the girl to sit up, he brought the glass to her lips and helped her quench her thirst and dry throat. now in a sitting position, Ruby had a much better view of the room. she was in her old room, the one she used to be in with Yang before (Y/n) moved in. why was she here?
"what...happened?" she questioned her father whom knelt down besides the bed, making note of how his eyes constantly searched her face for any sign of pain or distress. yet his search was unsuccessful.
he let out a soft sigh of relief.
"Qrow found you unconscious. he got you out of there, out of Beacon, he brought you home. home safe." his voice was almost trembling as he uttered those words. after all, he was close to losing 3 of his children that night....after he heard of the fall of Beacon and watched it unfold before his very eyes, god he was terrified.
"is Yang okay?" Ruby continued, her usual concern and high pitched voice no longer there. she was just tired. tired, hurt, and swirling with emotions she didn't know why she had.
"she's..fine. it's just....it's going to take a while for her to get used to things again." Tai looked down at the floor. "she's strong. she won't let that get her down forever. i just hope it goes soon..i'm just glad to have you guys back at home. and safe."
"what about...the school? and vale? did they get rid of the grimm?"
"the situation is under control but the school...i think it's going to be gone. whatever that big grimm was, it doesn't seem to have died. it's still there but.. i don't know what you did, but you did something. it's not dead, it's just...frozen. and because it's not dead, it's attracting grimm to the school."
"what..i did?" confusion was evident in her question, like the fragrant of memory just wasn't there. or rather the memory was unclear that she had no idea what even happened.
