I would've thought that this place would be thousands of years old, especially when you take into consideration that cave paintings are known to come from prehistoric times.
Beomgyu had the exact same thought, staring at the cave walls too.
"Hold up."
He grabbed Yeonjun's flashlight and walked closer to the rock, touching the paint and tracing his finger over it.
A frown settled on his face as he looked at his hand again, and even sniffed his fingers to confirm his theory.
"Strange."
"What?" Yeonjun asked.
"This isn't handcrafted paint made of dirt, dust or rock segments, as most cave paintings are made of; these are made of berries," Beomgyu said.
"Berries?"
Amazed, Yeonjun studied the paint closer.
"You can tell what ingredients the paint is made of?"
"Yeah. And besides, the colors are too pinkish and vibrant for it to be made of rocks or dirt. Most cave paintings have shades of dark red, brown and orange because rocks don't have a lot of pigmentation. The texture isn't rough either."
"Wow..."
Once again, Yeonjun looked at the walls, head beginning to spin with so many more thoughts.
So these paintings aren't prehistoric, and the rock is no older than 150 years old... How is this even possible? This... this is definitely quite a mystery.
The moment the two came back home, Yeonjun stormed to his laptop, connected it to Beomgyu's WiFi, and opened Safari.
A shower can wait, this can't.
Beomgyu had gone to the beach to do some of his oceanographic studies, so the older male was on his own for the next few hours.
Once Safari loaded, Yeonjun immediately typed into the search bar cave paint ingredients. Not that he didn't believe what Beomgyu said earlier, he just wanted to be extra sure.
But alas, most of what Beomgyu listed popped up under the first suggested article.
Yeonjun's fingers swiftly flew over the keyboard, searching up paint ingredients from 150 years ago.
Under that category, a bunch of other chemical ingredients were listed, but one of them did say this: color made from flower petals and/or other ingredients from nature.
"Okay then..."
And suddenly, Yeonjun had another question.
"If these paintings were made only 150 years ago, then how come the island has no recent records of that? How did people get here without there being some kind of record of a boat trip, or perhaps even a plane accident?"
After all, during prehistoric times, the earth is believed to have been one land, so it'd make sense that people could migrate faster. Not to mention, the Ice Age allowed humans to move across oceans.
But as far as Yeonjun or any other human was concerned, there was no ice age 150 years ago.
"Ughhhhhhh."
This is giving me a HEADACHE!
Wanting to redirect his attention elsewhere, Yeonjun thought of looking at the paintings more closely again, and go back to analyze what they mean or represent. However— he's done this so many times the past few days already, he was pretty much going to bore himself to sleep with it.
