Memories Returned

(Okay! Time for the moment we have waited for~ As in our little guy finding himself! Yay! 😁)

(Y/N)'s P.O.V.

We arrive at the temple. I stop and turn around as Sonic and Chip catch up, but Chip stops and looks at the temple with an uneasy look. I frown and look at Sonic as he looks at me. I nudge my head at Chip. "What's wrong, buddy?" Sonic asks him. "Huh? Oh, right. I'm just... scared." What? Scared of a Temple of Gaia. I walk over to Chip and squat down to look at him, "What do you mean by 'scared'?" I ask him. "Yeah. It's just another old temple. It doesn't look like there's anyone around, either." I hear Sonic say.

I keep my gaze on Chip as he still has a nervous look. "That's... that's not what I mean." He says. I tilt my head, "You don't have to come in right now if you don't want to. We can wait until you're ready." I say to him gently. "That's not... N-Never mind. I'm fine. Let's go!" He says, marching off towards the temple. I stand up and watch him. Sonic and I share a look then watch Chip fly into the temple. Something is bothering him. But what? (Yeah, what? 🤨)

Sonic's P.O.V.

Well, whatever is bothering Chip is definitely not nothing. But he can talk about it to us when he's ready. Right now, let's get another emerald and piece of the planet restored. We enter the temple and make it to the altar, but (Y/N) gasps softly and I stop to look at her looking up. I follow her gaze to find that it is the mural, but this one is different. "Whoa." It was a dragon-like creature with many heads and arms looking at a figure in an orb... and that figure looks like Chip. (What does it mean~?)

Speaking of Chip, he activates the pedestal then flies up to the mural while (Y/N) and I walk up to the pedestal. I place the emerald in the hole and it becomes engulfed in a purple glow, rising into the air and emits a bright light. The light fades to reveal that the Purple Chaos Emerald is back to normal. I turn around to watch Chop touch the mural, but then it glows brightly and I blink in surprise. Chip then got sucked in it and the portal closes. "Chip!" I look over to see (Y/N), and she looks scared. And ready to chase after Chip.

I grab her arm before she could jump at the mural. "What are you-" "We can't do anything. We have to wait." I tell her. (And this coming from the guy all about speed. He's serious.) She pants a little bit clams down and I move my hand from her arm to her own. She steps closer to me and we watch the mural. I feel her grip tighten but I watch the mural. Come on, little buddy. The mural brightens again and Chip flies out of it. I feel (Y/N)'s grip loosen and hear her let out a breath. Chip meets with us. "Sonic. (Y/N). I remember now. All of it." He says. He got his memories back.

Third Person P.O.V.

Once the piece of the planet is restored, the three make it back to the village and stand at a dock as they watch the sunset. "My... My real name is Light Gaia. I draw power from the day and light, and guide the planet to its rebirth. My job was to protect the planet from Dark Gaia." Chip, now known as Light Gaia, informs Sonic and (Y/N). Both hedgehogs are shocked and surprised at Chip's identity but say nothing yet. (It's VERY surprising.) "But Eggman broke apart the world himself, and Dark Gaia and I were awakened before we should've been." Chip states, facing away from them and looks down in shame.

"Wait. So, you are actually a god? And the reason why you lost your memories was because of Eggman too? Like how Dark Gaia fell apart because they weren't whole yet?" (Y/N) questions, surprised at Chip's true identity. "Yes. Because this isn't the proper Time of Awakening." Chip answers. "Time of Awakening?" Sonic questions. "Dark Gaia grows over millions of years, then rises to destroy the world. And I put it all back together. We've been doing this over and over, again and again... Since the very beginning of time." Chip explains, stepping forward and watches the sun.

(Y/N) blinks as she takes in all of the information. "That would also explain his connection to the temples. He's been to them before." She concludes in her mind. "So you were asleep all this time? For millions of years?" Sonic asks Chip in disbelief. The little guy turns around to face him, "Yes. For ages and ages." He answers. (That's a LONG time.) He looks back at the sun right as it fully sets. Purple mist surrounds Sonic as he transforms into the Werehog. "I bet it's thanks to you." He speaks, stepping forward to stand beside Chip. (Y/N) stands on Chip's other side as Sonic continues, "Even at night, when I'm like this, I'm still myself. Not like all the other people we've seen." He says, then looking down at Chip. "You must have been protecting me this whole time." He says.

Chip shakes his head, "Mm-mm." I haven't done anything, Sonic. You're the reason you haven't changed at all. You're too strong to lose yourself." He states. "I'm the reason?" Sonic questions. "When haven't you been the reason?" (Y/N) appears next to him. "You have always had this unbending will that no matter how bleak or hopeless things appear, you keep going! You faced mechanical monstrosities, armies of bots, faced off against discordant deities, and a mutant space cannon! And that doesn't cover it all!" She lists off, looking at Sonic with admiration. (He's got a long list.)

She smiles softly as she takes his hand into hers, "You give people hope. You inspire so many. And when we first met, I never could have imagined the speedy, blue and spiky ball of courage would be one of the most caring, trusting, assuring, sometimes annoying," Sonic gives her a raised brow, "selfless person I am more than grateful to have in my life." She states. Sonic looks into her eyes as holds her hands and gently pulls her closer. "No amount of darkness could ever make you forget who you are." She concludes. (Never. 🙂‍↔️)

Sonic looks into her eyes, seeing them sparkle, "And you are a light." He tells her. (His light. 😏) (Y/N) blinks in surprise of the comment but smiles in appreciation. Chip smiles at the scene between two. "Indeed." He speaks. The two looking down at him, "Neither of you ever doubt yourselves, no matter what. And if you do, you have those to remind you of what you can and already have done. You never give into the night, or the darkness in your hearts. I think it's because I knew that about you two." He says.

(Y/N) smiles as she takes back her hands from Sonic and kneels down to him. "The night maybe scary because of the dark, but it does have its own beauty." She says. (True. 🌌) Chip nods his head in agreement, "And it is also why I wanted you two to help me." He says. He flies to hover in the air and (Y/N) stands up as she and Sonic focus on him. "It's been so fun! Getting to see the world. I've lived here since the planet began, but... I didn't know an about it. That's so pretty, or that the food tastes so good, or that people are so nice! I'm so glad I got the chance to discover it all with you two." Chip says, flying around to express his emotions.

"And I'm so glad that you helped me find my memory." He bows his head to them in thanks. He looks at them a somber expression, "Sonic, (Y/N), I will never, ever forget you. Thank you. Goodbye, friends." Chip says, flying off. "Hey!" Sonic exclaims. "Chip! Wait!" (Y/N) calls out. Sonic stretches out an arm and grabs Chip by his tail, pulling him back to them as the little god lands on his feet. "Where do you think you're off to all by yourself?" Sonic asks him. "Yeah, you don't think we can handle one more temple?" (Y/N) says with sass, placing her hands on her hips.

"What... but... My memory is back now, a-and... Well, from here on out, i-it's my responsibility, so, um... I mean, there's no reason for you two to come along, so I-I-I should just..." Chip stutters with trying to find a reason. "Do I need a reason to want to help out a friend?" Sonic asks him. (Y/N) smiles at Sonic then holds her hands behind her back, "We started this together, so we finish it together." She states. (Mm-Hm. 🙂‍↕️) Chip looks at them as they give them smiles and he holds his hands together as he looks down, "Thanks, guys." He says, voice filled with gratitude.

Sonic holds up his index and middles fingers and points them at Chip with (Y/N) doing the same. Chip smiles at them as he points at them. He flies up as the three share a high five. "Yeah!" They cheer and laugh as they share a peaceful moment. Together.

(Okay! Now, we be heading to the final temple! And I know you all know that it is gonna be a heck of a ride. Until next chapter! ✌️)
