"Thanks!" Yeonjun cheerfully responded.

Of course, he heard the small hesitance at the end of her sentence, and could imagine the inner debate in her head on how to politely describe his files.

"Which is why..." she continued.

Okay, this was getting interesting.

"What?"

Miss Lee took a map from her desk, and showed it to Yeonjun, who automatically leaned closer for a better look.

She placed her finger on an extremely small piece of land, a little away from the coast of South Korea and the surrounding islands as well.

"This is an island that was discovered not too long ago. From the minor investigations done by other scientists, it is said to hold a lot of artifacts from prehistoric times," she explained.

Yeonjun's eyes instantly lit up, nearly unable to contain his giddy, almost childish excitement in the presence of his higher up.

"Okay..."

"And I've decided to select you, as the person who will be sent to this island for a scientific mission, starting next Monday."

Yeonjun needed a moment to click.

And his entire face beamed up.

"Really?!?!"

"Yes. I believe that it's in your field of interest. And who knows, maybe you'll find something to prove your theory."

Screw being professional— Yeonjun freely and happily allowed his giddiness to sweep over him.

"It is!! Thank you so much!!"

Miss Lee smiled, seeing his enthusiasm.

"You're welcome."

I picked the right one for the job.

"I promise to do my best; I won't let you down ma'am!"

"YOU'RE LEAVING ME?!?!" Taehyun exclaimed during lunch break.

Yeonjun bursted out laughing.

So typical of Taehyun to say that.

"No no, not at all! I'm just gonna be gone for 24 days. The expedition will take a while, and I'll be brought there by helicopter."

"Wow... this seems exciting. Hope you have fun."

Yeonjun grinned.

"I will! I can't wait to explore and find different things wherever I go. Miss Lee also told me that there is actually a small study house already built on the island. So I will hopefully have some shelter and food while I'm there."

"What about electricity and WiFi?" Taehyun asked.

"Oh."

Yeonjun awkwardly chuckled.

"Yeah, umm... about that. I'm... gonna be completely cut off from the world for 24 days."

"WHAT?!"

Taehyun, being his worrywart self, was ready to convince him out of it. But Yeonjun, being his friend, already expected that.

"It's too late to turn back now Taehyun. But don't worry about me: I'll be okay! I won't do anything crazy," he promised.

Taehyun raised a brow.

"Really?"

"Yeah, you know I'm responsible!"

"Hard to believe given how often your crazy ideas nearly got us killed. In the LAB ROOM if I may add!"

Sheepish, Yeonjun scratched his nape.

"Must you bring that up?"

"Yeah, it proves my point! For every argument made, we need evidence, that's—"

"Science 101, I know."

"And even more, you're gonna be all alone! What if you sprain your ankle, or even break it, and what if you get bitten by some poisonous spider or—"

"Taehyun."

For this, Yeonjun truly had to put his foot down, or in this case, his hands on Taehyun's angled shoulders.

"We're scientists who took medical school and plenty of safety courses. We know what to do in case of any emergency, remember?"

Taehyun sighed.

"You're right... guess I'm just nervous for you."

"And I appreciate it. Just please don't do too much, you don't want to get gray hair that early."

"Gray hair in this chestnut? Nah."

Still, Taehyun made sure to hug Yeonjun tightly, who patted him on the back.

"Just... take care of yourself, and come back safely," he said.

Yeonjun chuckled.

"Oh come on Taehyun. What could possibly happen to me on that island?"
