Enma looked back on his life, especially that moment in time. The moment where he met his first friend, and maybe last  friend. His rival and his enemy. He looked at a picture of him playing under a tree with a certain brunette. As you may have already figured out, the brunette was Tsuna. He missed Tsuna... and wondered where he was.

~Flashback~

Enma stared at his new roommate blankly. He sighed. Just another person that hates me. He ultimately to deny the others presence. That was what got him through life in a mental institution so far.

The other boy was silent about the whole matter and just continued as if Enma didn't exist, but what Enma didn't know was that the other was watching him very closely. With the eyes of a hawk one might say. Tsuna closely observed the boy discreetly. He noticed how Enma's shoulders slouched and how he seemed to be a person who was usually hunched. How the red head was covered in bandages. How Enma's compass like eyes held no emotion. All in all... he looked down right pitiful.

But as Tsuna studied Enma, Enma studied Tsuna. He wanted to ignore the brunette but... Tsuna was just too hard to ignore. As if he was a bright light in the middle of a dark void. The brunette seemed innocent enough. But he wouldn't be in a mental hospital if he was. He was a weak posture and burn marks on his skin. His chocolate brown eyes were sad but still held a certain shine. Like hope, or something along that line.

~End Flashback~

He chuckled darkly. And that was how they met. Strange, being brought together by a mental hospital. He always asked himself if he'd ever  see Tsuna again. If he did, when?

His life was a series of events, mostly bad. He was bullied a lot as a kid and nobody had ever bothered to help him. He told his parent and they just said it would go away. But it never did. Each time it got worse and worse. It went from verbal abuse to physical abuse. It went from tripping him, to stealing his stuff. Then to small scratches and bruises to beating him to a pulp. Then came stripping him naked and making him walk home naked. His sister wasn't much help. She either down casted him for being 'weak' or told him the most violent way to get revenge. Most of witch ended with hospital bill.

It was always a strange friendship.

~Flashback~

Tsuna had been rooming with Enma for a week. They hadn't talked much, actually they hadn't even exchanged words.

It was a cold night and coincidentally there was a blackout... so the mental hospital was even colder. Apparently they aren't fond of carpets. Our favorite red head was busy shivering in the dark as our favorite tuna fish watched.

Tsuna felt bad for the other, he could see that is roommate had no tolerance for cold. Not to mention he was freezing too. So, he slipped out of bed with his blanket wrapped around him and decided to crash the night in Enma's bed.

Enma looked at Tsuna like he was crazy, but then again they were in a mental hospital, so there was no room to talk there, considering he was here too. Tsuna snuggled comfortably into his bed and put an extra blanket around them. Tsuna smiled at him and he just stared back with a 'WTF' face. "W-what are y-you doing here?"

Tsuna put on a thoughtful face. "Well it is a bit cold tonight and you looked cold. So I thought it'd be warmer if we shared a bed!"

Enma blushed at the implication. "D-don't say it like that! It sounds so wrong on so many levels!" Tsuna looked at him with confusion clear on his face. "What do you mean?"

Enam didn't answer. He had concluded that he has spent to much time with his sister that her Bl stuff was rubbing off on him. "N-never mind. Just go back to your bed."

He yelped when he felt slightly smaller hands wrap around his. He looked at Tsuna with a red face but the other only grinned like an idiot! He diverted his gaze and slowly intertwined their fingers. He swore he looked like a tomato that night. But he got his first friend out of it.

~End Flashback~

That was one of the best nights of his life. But don't think of it like that, he was only nine at the time. they were also rivals. Very competitive rivals too. They tried to best each other in as many things as possible.

~Flashback~

It was a chilly spring day and it was wet and dreary outside so they were stuck inside. Enma groaned. "uuuugh why is the world so boring today!"

Tsuna just stared and cracked a smile. "But Enma-kun the world is always dull! To make the world exciting you have to do something exciting!" he chirped oh-so-not-so-helpfully. Enma glared. "Okay Mr. Ima-be-a-philosophical-genius what do you thing is so exciting!?" The other shrugged.

Tsuna thought for a it but came up with nothing. "I dunno. I tend to follow the wind. And when I get outta here I'll follow the wind to the ends of the earth. But I'm sure my life will be exciting!"

The redhead scoffed. "I bet mine will be even more exciting!" Then they went on arguing about who's life would be more action pact. It was their first official competition!

~End Flashback~

It was because of Tsuna he was alive. You see since Enma was bullied a lot and had no solid support he became suicidal. He tried many times and failed... all because of the stupid feeling called guilt. He tried so many times where it got to a point he was sent to a mental hospital. After a few months of trying a failing, this time because of the staff, he just stopped. Then he met Tsuna. A person who acknowledged him, didn't look down on him, and protected him. Believe me when I say bullies are everywhere. Tsuna was his personal therapist and friends. After about a month they opened up about why they were there in the first place. Turns out they weren't too different. The only huge difference was who they tried to kill.

Enma laughed a little. It was a weird friendship indeed.

But, as with all good things, they come to an end.

~Flashback~

he woke up one day and couldn't find Tsuna. He was worried and looked everywhere, and no avail. he thought maybe something important came up like he had to see the staff for some mental stability tests. he waited and waited but nothing. At night he didn't feel cold, just empty. Which was wore. He waited fora whole week and nothing. Panic flowed within every vein in his body.

Then one day he sat under their favorite tree and found a note. It read. 'Dear Enma-kun, I hope you find this soon, but don't worry I'm okay. I wished I could have said goodbye in person but I couldn't. Please don't hate me. Love, Tsuna'

He clenched the note in his hand as tears spilled through his eyes.He felt betrayed and broken. And more empty than ever. The he lost it. His suicidal attempts spiked at such rate they began to wonder if it'd be better if they put him to sleep, for good. He had no bullies cause he'd act in such violent outburst of rage people were too scared to approach him.

The after two months he realized it was hopeless. It wouldn't bring his best friend back, nothing would.

So, he stopped. He became dulled. His senses and emotions. Pain was like a light pinch, sadness... he didn't believe in such thing. Happiness was a distant dream. Anger was the same as slight annoyance. He failed in school, he didn't care. I fact he didn't care about anything. He may have cared about his family a little, but not that much.

~End Flashback~

He hated Tsuna for all the pain he caused him, but loved him for a the joy and happiness he brought to him. Even though he my never see the brunette ever again, Tsuna had a special place in his heart. Enma slowly warmed up to his family... mostly his sister. He learned to love and somewhat trust them. Though he would choose living with Tsuna forever over them, even if he never saw them again. He had a feeling that they were hiding something, something big. he feels he should know but they just won't tell him.

But no matter. He was too busy planning how to make his life awesome!!

Awww this chapter is sooo sweet. Albeit still angsty... I think. I'm not good with angst. Tell we how I did. Love you all!!
