Overlord Intro Part 5: The World XXI

Start from the beginning

"I have to go," you stated firmly while standing up. You couldn't remember when it had happened, but you had felt both fear, fury, and pride in their absolute purities. That might have been what led Carmilla to look at you strangely; you must've given the strangest expression. Loona nodded slowly at your words, before walking over towards you, and opening the now definitely crumpled envelope with her claws.

"I told you. I knew you were going to do something stupid," she said, pulling out the invitation inside.

"Loona, I—"

"I also told you that I would be there to stop something from happening to you. I have a stake in this now, with all that I've done under your name. I'm as much of Kerberos as you are. I'm coming with, so you don't fuck this up."

She looked down at the invitation in her claws, committing it to memory, so that it would be impossible if you tried to stop her.

In a twisted sense of irony, you feared for her safety while she was the one who sought to protect you, and all that you had worked for together. You had been the one to gather souls, but she was the one with the will, mindset, and experience to truly follow through, training you at the beginning, while helping to direct you until the very end. She was right; she was as much of a part of Kerberos as you were. You nodded solemnly.

...

You donned nice enough clothes for the meeting; you had been able to afford a suit with the new money I.M.P. had been earning. You were a wolf in a suit, which prompted some ideas in your head about the symbolism of predators and capitalism, but you pushed those away.

Loona, shockingly, dressed nicely for the meeting, determined not to be outdone by you. She was also wearing a suit, which was a look you had never seen her in. It was kind of fitting, given you had accepted the fact that you were both representatives of Kerberos. You were a pair of white and gray wolves in suits. Predatory capitalism...you shook your head, driving the thoughts away again. You couldn't afford to get distracted.

This was a stressful endeavor. You were going to talk to some of the most powerful figures in Hell, them being only below Demon Royalty and the Deadly Sins themselves. Not only that, but they were actively threatening all that you and Loona had built. Saying that you were anxious would be an understatement.

You both made your way to the building addressed in the invitation, with you going almost completely unnoticed due to your appearance as a Hellhound. Because of the nature of Overlord politics, it had become public information that there would be a meeting between all of them. Their respective territories had been told to "play nice" in the absence of their leaders. The public nature of it all caused a rumor to surface: Kerberos themselves would be attending this Overlord meeting. A rumor that had been no doubt spread by other Overlords in an attempt to seek audience with the faceless Overlord.

News stations had cameras tracking everyone who entered the building you arrived at. They were trying to guess at the identity of Kerberos, if they had indeed chosen to attend this meeting. They soon grew bored, disappointed that no-one of note had appeared. Just some lackeys and lower Hellborn.

You and Loona, on the other hand, continued into the building, entering an elevator that arrived on the specified floor. No one had bothered to come to this floor besides the Overlords, despite the place and time being broadcasted to the public. For whom would be stupid enough to enter a room filled with Hell's most powerful and dangerous sinners? Clearly, you two were.

To be completely honest, you were filled with pride at the fact you had been seen as a threat, but also rage at the actions they were threatening to take against your people, and yet also fear, your only confidence being the souls you commanded within yourself, and the presence of Loona beside you. You brought no weapons besides your natural ones; those being your claws and canines. You wanted to be as unassuming as possible when you made your presence known. Taking a deep breath, you stepped into the room.
