Overlord Intro Part 5: The World XXI

Start from the beginning

"Our threat still stands. If...the two of you don't get rid of this carrier deal...well, you know what we'll do."

He looked extremely uncomfortable. He was now afraid of mentioning the V's plan now that he was aware that he was in your presence. He had lost a lot of his fight, but you still had to deal with this mess.

Loona responded in kind, the apathetic yet aggressive tone she always carried adding to the convincing nature of her being an Overlord.

"Yeah, we got that." She looked up and over her shoulder at you. "Seems like we have no choice, right?" she asked. You nodded. In order to not lose sight of your dream to change how society treats Hellhounds, you would need to comply with the Overlord's demands. If you didn't, not only would your dreams be crushed, but you were reminded of the clause you had put in your first deal, as a promise to Loona.

"If I ever lose sight of my dream to make Hell a better place for Hellhounds, even if I can only help those in the Pride Ring, I will willingly give up every soul I've taken, or will ever take, on this path."

If you refused, you would lose your Overlord status, and the systems you built for Hellhounds would be left vulnerable.

Loona turned back to the Overlords. She slammed her fists on the table suddenly and angrily, startling you.

"Alright, listen up you glorified soul-vacuums! We'll stop the carrier deals. But we're Overlords, so we like to bargain. In exchange for not just ignoring you now, because of your stupid protests, we demand territory."

You stared at Loona in shock. What was she doing?! You were in no position to make demands!

"Think of it as a promise we won't just kill you all and take over the Pride Ring later. Only a few more days of soul-gathering, and we'd have enough power to waste you."

You stared at her in disbelief. You had lost count of how many souls you were in possession of. Had she been keeping track this whole time? She was the one who got you those trusted connection with the "Heads of Kerberos," so all she had to do was ask them...not to mention the fact that Carmilla had said you had a monopoly on new souls, and she had called you nearly unbeatable before. Did you really have the power to kill everyone else in this room? It made some amount of sense. Souls before you swooped in were split amongst the many Overlords here, not to mention exterminations cutting their numbers down, had made it so the constant new arrival of sinners you took advantage of, cutting the rest of them off, had almost certainly outpaced their count. That had to be part of the reason they were taking such drastic measures.

Vox gritted his teeth but said nothing. The other Overlords followed suit, grumbling. Carmilla's eyes widened, but her face settled into a smirk. As all eyes were now on Loona, she gave you a knowing nod. She really was on your side, after all.

When none of the other Overlords spoke, Carmilla took the opportunity to deploy herself as the lead negotiator.

"Dealing is what we do best. You'd be right in that we can do little to stop you now. So, in exchange for stopping the carrier deal, you demand territory? How much?"

The Overlords grumbled, and murmured to each other yet again, but agreed that Carmilla was the best to lead in this situation.

Loona gave a wicked grin.

"Every neighborhood that is currently dominated by Hellhounds. Every inch of land that holds the buildings we've built or adapted for the programs we run. In addition...we also demand that we don't completely stop the carrier deal."

At that, the Overlords starting shouting, but Carmilla quickly got them under control. She was the one negotiating, not them.

"Why would we accept that? To continue the carrier deal in any way is a ludicrous suggestion."
