Kim Dokja's POV:

Dokja awoke to large arms wrapped around him. He looked at the sleeping esper's face in annoyance.
It had been a week since he arrived at the Skybreaker guild, yet he still couldn't get used to the presence of Yoo Joonghyuk. He spent his days in guide training while Joonghyuk fulfilled his duties as guild leader and esper.
Surprising, Joonghyuk had been rather respectful of Dokja in the past few days. He hadn't brought up bonding since he agreed to wear the collar, and even though he was still incredibly handsy, he never tried to go past kissing.
Dokja thought it was strange and realized that he became more respectful after learning that Dokja has been abused by his father.
He didn't like receiving pity, but if that was what made the arrogant esper less overbearing, he would take it.
"Good morning, my guide." Joonghyuk said sleepily as he snuggled his face into Dokja's neck and kissed him.
"Yeah yeah asshole. I'm hungry." Dokja said batting the esper away and standing up to get ready for the day.
Joonghyuk smiled and went to the kitchen.
Dokja wouldn't admit it, but he couldn't get enough of Joonghyuk's cooking.
They were eating breakfast when Joonghyuk surprised him by saying "Do you want to see your mom?"
Dokja was surprised. It was brought up so suddenly that Dokja didn't know how to answer.
He didn't like that Joonghyuk was keeping his mother hostage, but he also didn't know if he wanted to see her. They had a... complicated relationship. He normally only went to see her in an emergency.
He used to visit her regularly when she was in prison the first time, but never knew what to talk about other than books he had read. His mother had taught him how to hide his guide status before she turned herself in. So he tried to live quietly without drawing attention to himself. Unfortunately his classmates in high school had found out about his mother being in prison and started bullying him. Things only got worse when she published a book that made journalists hound him as well. He didn't resent his mother for what she did to his father, but publishing a book about their trauma as if it was fiction or for attention... he never could shake off the shock and hurt from that.
He thought about it for a moment before sighing. "I suppose I should go see her, though I think all I'll get out of it is a lecture on getting caught by you." He huffed
"I'll make the arrangements to visit her room." Joonghyuk said
"Room? I thought you said you arrested her?"
"I did, but I paid her bail and arranged to take her into my custody as a kind of probation. I figured I shouldn't leave your mother in a cell and having her at the guild makes it easier for everyone. She obviously can't leave without my permission though."
"You really like taking hostages don't you?" Dokja raised an eyebrow, but Joonghyuk just shrugged.
They made their way down to a level labeled "special confinement." The hallway looked like the hallway of a hotel, each room had a number and a card key lock.
"Here we are." They stopped in front of a door and Joonghyuk used his esper ID on the lock sensor.
They walked into a surprisingly spacious and comfortable looking suite. With a full kitchen and bathroom. His mother sat on the sofa reading.
"Well, this is disappointing." His mother said with a small frown.
"I thought you'd at least keep out of his clutches for a year. I thought I taught you better than that."
Dokja sighed, this was about what he expected.
"So what are you two doing here. Don't tell me you're here to ask for my blessing. Because I'm afraid I'm not inclined to give it."
Dokja blushed while Joonghyuk just smiled.
"I'm afraid I won't be seeking your blessing since you were so inclined to lie to me during our first meeting." Joonghyuk responded
"Don't talk like we're getting married!" Dokja blushed as he punched Joonghyuk's arm.
"Well, maybe not yet..." Joonghyuk said
Dokja growled at the implication.
"I noticed you chose a collar instead of bonding. Why the hesitation?" Dokja's mom inquired at the black metal band.
"Well I found out some unsettling things about my precious guide's past that make me feel inclined to be patient. Your prison records stated that you killed your husband after he forcibly guided and abused you multiple times, but there was no record of your son in the official statements. In fact, there was no record of him anywhere until after that incident when he went into the foster care system. You really covered your tracks well, you must have some high up connections." Joonghyuk probbed
"Well at my age you meet such diverse groups of people. I'm much better at social networking than my son."
They both seemed to stare each other down in a battle of wills and wits.
"It seems we need to have this conversation one on one." Dokja's mom sighed
"Son, why don't you leave us."
"What? Why should I leave! What would you two have to talk about without me?" Dokja's mom sighed, he was startled and suspicious. He didn't like the idea of these two people with so much influence in his life teaming up together.
"If you don't leave now I'll have no choice but to tell Joonghyuk your secret from high school."
Dokja stiffened and then glared, "you wouldn't."
"Care to test me?"
Dokja weighed his options, but he knew his mother really would reveal one of his darkest secrets if he didn't leave.
"You better not side with this jerk of an esper." Dokja gave a final warning before leaving into the hallway.
He tried to push his ear against the door and eavesdrop, but since YJ was an esper he immediately sensed his heartbeat and yelled
"Leave Dokja."
Dokja sighed and walked down the hallway and into the elevator.
'What could those two possibly have to talk about?' Dokja wondered
