She had every right to be.
"I'm sorry, it won't happen again," you stated. In the heat of the moment, you hadn't considered the damage your joke could've caused. It was true, you wouldn't let it happen again.
"Damn fucking right it won't," Loona said, pointing a finger at your nose. You narrowed your eyes, and fought back a growl as you remembered how much you fucking hated that gesture. Not in front of Loona. Not in front of anyone. I need to not let it bother me anymore, you thought. I'm in a safe place now. Loona did that for me.
You were both silent for a while. You stood outside the restaurant, awkwardly waiting for the other to do something.
"What exactly...did you tell Blitzø? You know, just so I can better adapt to your story," you reasoned.
"I told him what I assumed you wanted your cover story to be," Loona answered quietly. "Born a hellhound, experienced some major fucking trauma, like I did for most of my life. Which I assume..." Loona looked at you sympathetically, but also with a bit of...something else. "...is actually true, even if you've only been in Hell for some of your afterlife. Trauma is still trauma, even if the time suffered might be different. Vastly different, even." Loona paused. "Can I ask...how you died?"
You winced at the question. Loona stepped closer to you.
(Blitzø was eating popcorn, still watching from the bushes.)
"You don't have to tell me, it's okay if you don't want to. I've never died, so I don't...I don't know what that was like for you." Loona shifted uncomfortably from foot to foot. It seemed she didn't know what to do with her hands.
You only waited a moment before you spoke. You were okay with it.
"When sinners...die...they take a form relating to how they died. You already know this." Loona nodded. "So, I look like this," you gestured towards your wolf-like face, "because something like it killed me." Loona nodded again. She had heard something similar when you had your heart-to-heart after the fight. A thought occurred to her. "Oh Satan, I didn't kill you, did I?"
"No! No, of course not!" you reassured her. She let out a sigh of relief. "I died..." you took a deep breath before continuing, "...because I was torn to pieces by a pack of wolves. I was trying to save someone. I don't know if they're down here, or even if they're dead or not." You stopped a moment to gather your thoughts. "When I woke up down here, I was fucking furious that it was the case. I mean, I had died trying to save someone. Surely, I was a good person when I was alive. Then I saw my face in a broken window, and I made the horrible discovery that I look like this. I look like the animals, the monsters, that took my life in the most painful and primal way. It was a completely fucking preventable death too; if only my parents had listened to me." Loona nodded knowingly, thinking of Blitzø. "Then I went through weeks of being treated like a hellhound, and not the sinner I actually was. Believe me, I'm not trying to discount what real hellhounds like you go through. My first day at I.M.P., I tried to go through the portal back to Earth, hoping that I would be able to be human again, but I stayed the way I was. I'm stuck like this. Eventually I burst into flame when I gave heaven the finger for punishing me like this," you gestured towards your entire body.
Loona was quiet again.
"...I don't think...you look like a monster. I think...you look good." Loona stepped closer and took the collar of your jacket into her hands. "Especially when you try to dress nice," she said as she fixed the collar. She tilted her head and smiled at you.
She was so close. Your heart was beating fast. You were blushing a deep red, and your tail was almost certainly wagging. But you didn't care. You looked Loona in her red eyes, with the white irises framing her pupil. They were beautiful. Maybe you didn't care anymore that you looked like a wolf. Maybe you didn't care that she looked like a wolf. You fucking furry.
"ALRIGHT, that's enough! I've seen enough shitty romcoms to know where this is going, and I'm not having it!" Blitzø said as he stumbled out of the bushes. He tossed a popcorn bucket aside as he walked toward you. Both you and Loona were frozen, flabbergasted at his sudden appearance.
"How long have you been there?" you questioned Blitzø.
"Long enough to know that you're not really a hellhound." Blitzø said as he pointed a finger at you. You mentally counted to 10 as you received the gesture. You held your breath.
"And that you lied to me about them." Blitzø turned and pointed to Loona, who was still really close, then back to you. She quickly let go of your collar and stepped away, hands up in the air.
You and Loona looked at each other, then at Blitzø. He continued speaking.
"I'm insulted that you both thought you couldn't trust me with this. BUT, since it's clear that (Y/N) did actually experience trauma related to...being a 'hellhound,' I don't think it's a firable offense. That did seem to be a cause of the fight." You sighed, relieved.
"BUT-BUT," Blitzø snickered to himself, "I do think there should be some kind of fucking punishment for keeping this a secret." Blitzø leaned extremely close to you, and yanked your head down to his by the ear. He whispered so that Loona couldn't hear. "There'll be Hell to pay if you even think about touching my daughter. I'll make you fucking wish there wasn't an afterlife, you little bitch." Blitzø then sank down to his feet, having to stand on tiptoes to reach your head. He released you.
"How does paying for tonight's dinner sound?" He said, grinning, as he repeatedly switched which one of you he was looking at. He didn't mean the both of you, though. He meant just you. He pulled out the signed agreement. Your eyes widened. He must've pickpocketed it when he grabbed you.
You sighed, and pulled out your phone. Did we have mobile banking in Hell? "How much do I owe you?"
"Ohhhh no, dinner's not over yet." Blitzø grinned. "M&M are still inside."
"Fuck."
