L's POV

"Are you ready, Osc?"

"Hell yeah, let's go."

We share a fist bump, then jump into our cars and head to the start line. "Get your head in the game, Lando."

Red, red, red, GREEN! GO!

The green flag waves.

"How many laps left?"

The radio responds, "10 laps, Lando."

10 more laps to go. I can do this.

"Zak, you can't do this. Not now." Charlotte tries to stop him.

He rushes over to the pit wall and puts on his headphones.

"Radio check, Lando?"

"Zak? What's going on?"

"It's bad, Lando."

I know exactly what he's talking about.

"Shit!" I yell. "This jeopardizes everything for her." Frustration builds up inside me. Now, I just need to finish the race.

I pull up to the garage and head straight inside once the race is over. I take off my helmet and hand it to one of the engineers. Zak approaches me.

"Where is she!?"

"Lando, it's not a goo—"

"Zak, where is she!?"

He looks at me. "Charlotte's office," he says.

I run down the hallway and across the paddock to the McLaren building. I storm into Charlotte's office. Skye and Cadey are sitting there.

"Lando, not now," Charlotte says, stopping me in my tracks.

"What did they say!?" I demand. Charlotte looks at me. "Dammit, Charlotte, what did they say!?"

She lets out a big sigh. "It says that you're not focusing on racing, that your head's in the clouds. They bad-mouth Skye really badly. She's the target now."

"This also doesn't help that I got P6 today," I mutter to myself.

"What can we do about it, Charlotte?" I ask, my mind racing.

"I'm trying to get it under control, but it's already spread far and wide," she replies.

"Dammit."

"Does this affect the marketing position for her?" I ask. Skye looks at me, and I gesture, "Not now."

"Yes, unfortunately. They won't let her on the team after this," Charlotte answers.

I walk back and forth in Charlotte's office. Skye looks uneasy. "There has to be something we can do," I say as I sit down on the couch.

"Lando, you know there's only one way out of this," Skye says. I look up at her. "Charlotte and I already discussed it."
