"Lando, I'm so sorry for leaving and for not talking to you but I have to tell you something," I whisper, my voice muffled against his chest.

"What is it?", he asks softly.

"I just want us to be friends for a while. I am not ready for this."

"It's okay, love," he says softly. "I understand." I can hear the disappointment in his voice.

He pulls back slightly, just enough to brush a soft kiss against my cheek. "I would rather have you in my life as a friend, than not at all. I admire you Skye."

I smile through my tears, the warmth of his words wrapping around me like a blanket.

Then, without warning, he says, "Come work with me."

I blink, shocked by the suddenness of his proposal. "How can I do that?" I ask, my mind racing. "I have a job. A life here."

Lando's expression is serious but kind as he explains, "One of my crew's social media content creators just resigned, and we need someone to fill in ASAP. It's not a design position, but it's marketing, and I remember you said you loved that side of things too."

"This is... very sudden, Lando. I can't just drop everything. I have a notice period and all the handovers," I protest, still trying to make sense of what he's asking.

He shrugs. "Well, we have a race next week in Las Vegas. If you want to join, let me know, and I'll set up an interview with Zak and the recruiter. You'll have some time to think about it."

I'm still processing everything when I ask, "Oh, your race... how long are you here for?"

"Oscar and I are leaving tomorrow morning to head back to Las Vegas," he says, and my heart sinks at the thought of him leaving again.

"Shh," I whisper, pressing a finger to his lips. I hear voices outside the door and, in an instant, I yank it open.

Oscar and Cadey come rushing in, looking like they're in some kind of race, falling flat onto the floor.

"Well, well, well," I say, raising an eyebrow. "If it isn't Miss 'Let's Do a Spa Weekend' and well, you, Oscar."

Cadey looks up at me with an apologetic smile. "I was going to tell you."

"Yeah, right. I believe you," I say, rolling my eyes as I help her to her feet.

She stands, and I sit back down next to Lando on the bed.

"Okay, soooo... since you two lovebirds have made up, we'll see you in Las Vegas next weekend," Cadey announces casually.

"What?" I ask, stunned.

"Yeah," she grins, "Lando kinda got us special passes, so we're spending the day in the race garage with them."

I blink at her, then look at Lando in disbelief. "You... you did what?"

"Don't worry," Lando says with a smirk. "I'm sure we'll have a good time."

I shake my head, raising my fist in mock threat. "You, miss ma'am, are going to get it when I get the chance."

She grabs my fist and shakes it like we're shaking hands. "Later," she says.

"Alright, ladies," Oscar says, cutting in before I can give Cadey a playful jab for bringing Lando to me in the middle of all this. "Why don't we go out and make a day of it? What's there to do here in New York?"

Cadey scoffs with a dramatic roll of her eyes. "What's there to do? My good sir, I have the entire day planned already. You just have to wait and see."

I raise an eyebrow at her. "So, you just assumed we're going to make up right here and now?" I ask, a little skeptical.
