"Home?" I scoff. "This isn't home."
"Oh but it is home now, Damien," Samael smirks. "It's home until the day you die. Which isn't long from now."
"Are you saying I'm not going to win our battle to the death?" I ask.
"Wha- your not supposed to know about that!" Kyden exclaims.
"Oh yeah?" I ask. They glare at me. Samael steps forward and grabs my throat with one hand. He lifts me into the air. I gasp for air and try to pry his fingers from around my throat.
"If I catch you trying to practice your powers, I will kill you," he growls, his eyes turning yellow. I feel a burning on my neck.
"Samael stop," Satan says from the doorway. Samael drops me and I fall to my knees holding my neck.
"Leave," he orders. Samael and Kyden scramble out of the room. I stay on the ground holding my neck, coughing.
"Let me see," he says softly kneeling down in front of me. He moves my hand from my neck.
"This looks pretty bad," he mumbles to himself. "He left a pretty bad burn on your neck. I'm sure it'll scar."
I get up and look at the mark in the mirror. Its a slightly yellow hand print.
"Yeah, that'll probably scar," I say to myself.
"I should be leaving," he says. "But," he says turning around. "Practice your powers. If Samael tries to kill you he'll be beheaded before he could even plead for his life."
He walks out and I grab Three Sons again. I actually start to read it, not just skim through it.
I find out that the three sons each have a different color of fire. Mine is red, Kyden's is blue, and Samael's is yellow. The three primary colors. The winner of the fight will get the other brother's powers. We all have a different transportation power. The three are teleportation, flying, and super speed. I wonder which I have. I know Samael has teleportation. He teleported that day in the library. I skip to the last page. "The winner of the fight is-" and it stops. This book isn't finished. The fight hasn't happened, stupid, I think to myself.
"Prince Damien?" Kyla asks knocking on the already open door.
"I already told you just call me Damien," I say.
"Oh, I'm sorry Pri-... Damien," she apologizes looking down at the floor. I get the feeling she's scared of me.
"Don't be afraid of me," I say quietly. I approach her. She flinches as if I'm going to harm her.
"I'm not going to hurt you," I whisper. She continues to look at the floor.
"Who hurt you?" I ask.
"Before Kyden and Samael brought you here, I had no purpose. I was only born to serve you, but Kyden and Samael... They decided I was.. For the taking while you were growing up in the human world... Th-They," she stops bursting into tears. I pull her into a hug.
"It's okay. I'm here now and they won't touch you," I say. How dare they touch her!
"Ow," she says pulling out of the hug. She looks at her back in the mirror. On the back of her dress is two burn holes that look like hand prints.
"I'm so sorry, Kyla," I say.
"I-it's okay. I know you didn't mean to," she says. "I'm not supposed to tell you this, but each of you, Kyden, and Samael is driven by a different emotion."
"What emotions are we all driven by?" I ask.
"Samael's is driven by rage, Kyden's is driven by envy, and you... I'm not quite sure about you," she says. I nod and think. We stay silent for awhile just standing in my bedroom.
"I have a feeling I know what the emotion that drives you is," she says.
"What is it?" I ask quickly.
"Passion," she says.
"Passion?" I ask.
"Yeah like... love," she says awkwardly. I nod.
"I guess every time my powers went crazy I was near or talking about my best friend, Snow," I say. Kyla nods and looks at the floor. Like she's... Sad?
"What's wrong?" I ask stepping closer.
"I, uh, nothing. Nothing's wrong," Kyla says walking quickly out of the room.
"Kyla, wait!" I call after her. She keeps rushing down the hall. I sigh and walk back into my room. My ears start to ring loudly for a second then abruptly stop.
"You told him. I heard," someone says.
"No, Samael, please. I-I was-"
"You were what?" Samael hisses. I hear Kyla sob.
I run out of my room and follow the sound. I stop at the stairs to the third floor. Satan told me not to come up here. Kyla is in trouble and you're worried about something Satan said? You're already in hell. I run up the stairs as fast as I can, still following the sounds. I burst into a room. I see Kyla huddling in a corner and Samael standing over her with a yellow fire ball in his hand.
"Get away from her!" I yell. I feel my entire body get hot. My entire body bursts into flames. I feel... Power?
"No!" Samael yells running toward me. Fire erupts around me.
"Damien?" Kyla asks. I open my eyes I'm lying on the ground. My head is in Kyla's lap.
"What happened?" I ask sitting up and running a hand through my hair. I see scorch marks on the floor in the shape of a pentagram.
"You got your full powers and you're almost completely demon now," she says.
"I thought I already had my powers? Almost completely demon?" I ask.
"No, you didn't have your full powers, but you do now. You let your emotion consume you and you got your full powers. You are like ninety percent demon now. The other ten percent is your human side that allows you to keep your human form," she explains.
"Wait, I thought my emotion was passion. Snow wasn't-" I trail off and see Kyla smiling.
"You?" I ask. She nods.
"Apparently, you care about me more than you thought," she teases. I laugh. I get up from the floor.
"What happened to Samael?" I ask.
"Oh, um, he tried to kill you while you were getting your full power and-" she says pointing to Samael on the floor. I chuckle and walk out of the room. Serves him right.
"Damien!" I hear someone call down the hall. I see Kyden running down the hall towards me.
"What?" I ask.
"What was that fiery explosion?" he asks.
"I, apparently got my full powers," I say. Kyden's eyes widen.
"Was Samael mad?" he asks with a genuine smile.
"Yeah. I think so. Why are you being so... nice?" I ask.
"I, uh, I don't know. I mean, I actually hate Samael, but I have to be on his side to win the fight," he says.
"So, you both are going to kill me then you're going to kill him?" I ask. He nods. Idiot just told me his plan.
"Anyway, I should be going," Kyden says. I turn and continue down the hall. I walk into the library. I see Satan sitting on a couch in the middle of the room.
"Oh, hello Damien," he says with a smile.
"Uh, hi," I say awkwardly.
"Come. Sit," he says. I walk over and sit on the couch. I straighten my tie and sit up straight.
"Damien, you don't have to be afraid of me. I'm your dad," he says.
"Biologically, yes. As an actual father no. My mother was barely there for me," I say.
"I know I wasn't there for you, but you know, king of hell and all," he says. He pauses for a moment. "I really did love your mother and she loved me, but when she found out that I was Satan she tried to abort you about six times, but it didn't work. She tried throwing herself down flights of stairs and punching herself in the stomach. None of it worked, and to this day I'm not even sure how you survived," he says. "She even tried to kill you once you were born, but my demon guards stopped her and told her if she killed you they would kill her." She tried to kill me! I knew she hated me. Well, she told me she hated me, but I didn't think she would've tried to kill me.
"Well, this was a great talk," I say sarcastically. I get up and walk to the door. Just as I put my hand on the doorknob he says "I'm rooting for you, Damien." I turn, nod at him once, and walk out of the library.
