The Sound of a Promise

The Christmas vacation passed by quickly. I celebrated Christmas and New Year with my mom, and now, it's time to go back to school.

"Yo!

Then, out of the corner of my eye, something written on the board caught my attention. Napatingin ako doon.

Our band name was written in uppercase, and my deskmate stood near it, holding a chalk.

"Guys!" she called out. "Let's write our dreams here," sabi niya habang tinatap ang board.

Napakunot ang noo ko. She's doing that cheesy thing again. Ugh.

To start, she wrote her dream along with her name. And like always, Elliot went along with it almost immediately.

Once we were done, we started our club meeting—the real reason we gathered here today.

"We need to choose a song for the festival. I know maaga pa at may dalawang buwan pa tayo, pero magiging busy tayo sa mga ipapagawa ng teachers natin. And of course, with the exams coming up, we won't have enough time to prepare," paliwanag ng deskmate ko, na tinanguan ni Rive.

"May mga CD's ba kayo sa inyo, Luna? I know how much you love listening to songs. You'll be able to choose better if you have a CD," tanong niya sa deskmate ko.

"I don't," sagot niya habang umiiling.

Rive sighed. "I know we have the internet, but having a curated collection of CDs makes the selection more focused and manageable."

I totally get what he meant. While the internet is convenient, it's overwhelming because of its vast library of music. It could take hours—or even days—to find the right one. But if we choose from a collection of CDs, we'll have a limited selection, making it less overwhelming.

"Kayo ba?

From what I know, nilipat niya halos lahat ng gamit niya sa beach house since nandoon ang business niya," sabi ni Zeira.

If his CDs are in his beach house, then it'll be a long ride to get there. Ang layo pa naman nun.

"If possible, sana makapili na tayo ngayon. We still have to review for the exams and pass our requirements," sabi ni Rive bago bumaling sa akin. "Kayo, Wynther?"

Napabuntong hininga ako. "We have."

I have a collection of CDs in my room.

"It's settled then. Luna will be coming with you."

Nanlaki naman ang mata ng deskmate ko. "A-ako lang? Hindi ba kayo sasama?" Nagpa-panic niyang tanong.

"Sasama ako," sagot ni Elliot.

My deskmate immediately sighed in relief—which, for some reason, I didn't like. Ayaw ba niyang makasama ako?
