Part 21

Kim Taehyung gets up from his place on the couch. He walks straight to Jeon Jeongguk, his boyfriend. His boyfriend, whose eyes are getting bigger and bigger with every single step that he takes towards him. He settles down in said boyfriend's lap, straddles him. He lifts his hands and cups his boyfriend's face. There's pin drop silence in the room. It seems time has stopped. And then, Kim Taehyung kisses Jeon Jeongguk square on the mouth, for six other people to see, watch, understand that he belongs with only one person on this earth, and that boy also belongs with him, only him. They are destined to be together, and no amount of planning, plotting, pushing is required for them to claim their destiny. It is meant to be. It needs no meddling. And it needs only two people - the one who initiated the kiss, and the one who automatically forgot everything else to just kiss back with equal passion, if not more.

You see, Kim Taehyung always has a plan. He doesn't look like it (and he knows that, and he considers it to be his biggest advantage), but he always has a plan. And he always manages to take people by surprise, be it his birth family (the Kims), his found family (BTS), or his soon to be own family (Jeon Jeongguk), his friends, his fandom, his managers, or his staff. He always surprises them, and yet, they never suspect him. Taehyung sometimes blames it on the way he looks - like a lost, beautiful, but innocent little pup, Jimin had once told him - that people find it difficult to believe that he is, actually, a ravishing beauty with brilliant brains. There is a reason why Jeongguk calls him a genius and it's not just because he's whipped for the man.

It's another thing that his plans don't always work out the way he wants them to. And so, he always has a plan b, c, and d. Because one thing the actor inside of him loves, craves even, is the way people react when he pulls the kind of stunts he pulls. He lives for theatrics and he in so unassumingly stealthy in his approach, that not even the person who knows him the best can guess his next step if that's how he wants it to be (if you need proof, refer to the ultimate betrayal Jimin experienced in Run BTS, or the way he continued singing as if nothing happened after kissing Jeongguk's nape in front of the whole world on stage during their concert in Citi Field).

Anyway, coming back to the point. Kim Taehyung always has a plan. The moment he laid eyes on Jeon Jeongguk, he had plans. Taking him under his wings, drawing him out of his shell, making him feel comfortable in his skin, initiating the process of bringing the star out from behind the shy kid - it was all a grand plan of gifting the world with the biggest idol they would ever have. Taehyung was sure from day one that Jeongguk was a miracle. The best voice in the world (though he keeps saying Korea, he actually means universe). And he knew that to bring that X-factor to the talent, the little one only needed a push. He did everything in his power to give him that push. Showing him it was okay to live a little, to harmlessly break some rules, to be the children that they were. His plan was to give Jeongguk the childhood that had been taken away from him, so that he would start growing up better.

He did not imagine that through this process of discovery, he would fall head over heels in love. But once he did, he had plans to handle it too - the simplest plan he's ever had - to wait till Jeongguk was ready, or to live his life with his Tannie, and the five children he's going to adopt. He cannot fathom marrying anyone else. If Jeongguk wanted him to stay in his life as a friend, he was going to be the best fucking friend the universe ever saw.

He has plans for his solo album. He knows he's going to present a very different side of him - something that the world does not expect from him. He also knows that he'll go last - he won't mention it in his interviews, but he'll go last because he doesn't want his Jeonggukie to take the pressure of being the last one. Because he knows, knows, that his Jeonggukie's career is not going to be restricted to the Korean Music Industry, he's set for world domination with that amazingly versatile voice of his, and he wants to do his bit in making him as comfortable as possible in that process. He has it all mapped out in his head.

Kim Taehyung always has a plan - and he doesn't let others control his world (he may lead them to think he's doing what they want him to do, but the joke's on them, always).

So from the day his world changed, i.e. Jeon Jeongguk confessed his love to him, he's had a plan. To now purposefully do what the army has always said he's been doing - leaving crumbs of his relationship with Jeongguk behind for people to discover them - private, not secret. To surprise the shit out of him by kissing him in front of his hyungs after saying he's never going to do it. To turn the tables on Jimin in a way that makes him realise his wait for Jeongguk was not in vain, that his love had always had the power that Jimin had started losing faith in.

The plan that Jeongguk knew about, was simple - lead the hyungs and Jimin to believe that Jeongguk is unaffected by his relationship with Bogum, torture Jimin throughout dinner, and come out as a couple to the members over breakfast the next day to shock the living daylights out of Jimin. The plan that Taehyung had was simpler - convince Bogum to play along with Jimin's pressure tactics (because he knows Jimin like the back of his hand, and he knew that the older boy would try to pull a fast one when he would see his plan failing), and then bring the curtain down on the whole charade by claiming his boyfriend during the climax. That would shut people up and tell them to mind their own businesses.

Kim Taehyung's life can only be scripted the way he wants it to be.

He wasn't always like this. He went along with whatever life presented him with. Changing his plans according to what the situation needed. But at some point, he realised that though he is loved a lot by a lot of people, he is also the most hated member in the group. In the beginning, the knowledge hurt like a bitch. Then, with the help of his members, therapist, and Jeongguk, he healed. At different points in life, he's been hated for different reasons - initially, for being the naughty one - the rule breaker, then for being the only one that got roped into a K-Drama, for being the one closest to Jeongguk, for coming between Jimin and Jeongguk (whatever that means!), for stealing spotlight from the rest, for being an attention seeker, and the list goes on. The only plan he has ever had against all the hatred is to surprise everyone with a lot of love. To keep working, giving his best, and only giving love back - using all the negative energy to push him on days he feels lazy and wants to give up. He only spreads love because he is that old school romantic who believes that only love conquers all.

He has also never been ashamed to show how he feels. Repeated warnings from PR teams have never been able to stop him from expressing his fondness for Jeongguk. No matter how many faces Yoongi makes, he will always go and hug his hyung (because he knows Yoongi is too shy to ask for affection). He will always treat Jin and Namjoon as his own elder brothers and be a brat with them - because he feels safe in their company. He will always hang like a Koala from Hobi's shoulders because Hobi will always entertain his need for physical affection. He will never be afraid to fight with Jimin because that is one friendship that he is the most secure about - he knows it's forever.

So Kim Taehyung has a plan. And the plan is to show the whole world how much he loves and adores Jeon Jeongguk, starting with his immediate audience - his hyungs. Because Jeongguk, in Taehyung's opinion, deserves all the love in the world - love that should never be hidden behind irrational homophobia, love that will always be the wind beneath his wings, love, that will always boost his confidence and never feed into the insecurities that the maknae secretly holds on to. When it comes to his members, Taehyung knows its a safe space, and he can be vocal, he doesn't have to hold back his emotions, or his love language - frankly not much will change, him and Jeongguk have always been all over each other, and he thinks they'll get used to the kissing since they're used to the eye-fucking that they've been witness to for all these years (not that they knew they were eye-fucking each other, but its that apparent, it seems). With their families, he knows that they'll be supportive, their love is bigger than any other factor. With the agency, he knows he will have the support of the group - they're too big for the agency to dictate their lives now, anyway. With the rest of the world - he knows that the intelligent ones will get it, and the genuine ones will support it.

So as he walks towards Jeon Jeongguk, the love of his life, to bring his plan to fruition, and watches the younger's doe eyes get bigger and bigger the closer he gets, feels his breath hitch when he sits on his lap and straddles him, and leans in to claim his love, he has a smirk on his face. Because he knows he's pulled off the biggest surprise without anyone having an inkling. Because he knows that this is how his Ggukie deserves to be loved.
