Deep within the cavernous confines of the Batcave, where the resonating echoes of waterfalls added an air of mystique, Bruce occupied the computer chair. Jess, surveying the high-tech lair, couldn't help but be awestruck by the secret world concealed beneath Arkham Island.

Barbara's voice reverberated through the cave's shadows. "Dr. Young was spearheading a project—big, with substantial external funding. Here are her last notes; I can't make sense of it," she explained, her voice cutting through the ambient hum. Jess approached the computer, arms crossed, ready to unravel the enigma.

Examining the files on the screen, Jess raised a skeptical brow. "It looks like she's experimenting on the Arkham patients. Sounds like malpractice."

Bruce nodded, his eyes reflecting agreement. "This chemical compound she was using barely resembles the original Venom compound," he elucidated. "There are significant changes that appear to amplify the drug's strength, eliminating the need for the tank Bane relies on for it to work." Bruce leaned forward, engrossed in the files. "Wait a minute, a page is missing for the formula."

"That has to be what Dr. Young is hiding," Jess interjected.

"If Joker gets his hands on that formula, he'll have an army of a thousand Banes," Bruce concluded, his gaze shifting towards Jess before rising from the chair.

Barbara released a stressed sigh. "Oh my god, is Joker crazy enough to do that?" She paused, catching herself. "What am I saying, of course he is. You've got to stop him, keep me updated." The comm-link severed, leaving Bruce and Jess alone in the dimly lit Batcave, where the weight of Gotham's fate hung in the air like an invisible shroud.

The Bat diligently assembled pieces, metal clinking together, while Jess nonchalantly leaned against a nearby crate. "What is that?" she asked, her curiosity piqued.

"I modified the grappling hook to handle larger objects at a distance," Bruce explained, his focus on the task at hand. "It'll also support the weight better when I have to carry you up."

Jess couldn't help but smirk. "Lemme guess, it's called the Batclaw?" Expecting a snarky comeback, her smirk faded when Bruce remained silent. "Are you serious? Could you not be any more original?" Her dry tone cut through the air, the banter revealing a hint of the tension simmering beneath the surface in the heart of the Batcave.

Bruce moved in front of Jess, a deliberate move that left her cornered against the crate. "Do you ever stop talking?" he asked, his proximity increasing as he pressed against her. The sensation of her chest pressed against his made Jess wonder if he could feel the rapid thump of her heartbeat against her breastbone. "It's starting to get on my nerves."

A defiant glare flashed from Jess. "I wouldn't be talking if you didn't base your entire personality on your alter ego," she shot back, her hands pressing against his shoulders. "You're too close."
