This was hard.

A silent house, where laughter dwelled,
Now echoes with farewells unyelled.
A father's choice, to leave, to roam,
To shield the hearts that made his home.

With every step away he strides,
A piece within him breaks, divides.
The weight of love, a heavy load,
As he walks on that lonesome road.

"Forgive me," whispers to the night,
A starless sky, his only light.
His family's safety, his solemn vow,
A sacrifice they may not know how.

He carries on, through pain, through strife,
His absence, a sharp and double-edged knife.
For in his leaving, he hopes to give,
A chance for them, a life to live.

Yet in the quiet, in the still,
His presence lingers, always will.
A father's love, a ghostly shroud,
A silent cry, heartbreakingly loud.
