"TOBIAS FUCKING EATON, GET YOUR ASS DOWN HERE NOW!" screams Marcus from downstairs.
"Tobias don't go, I'm scared.. please" I say hugging Tobias's arm.
"Shannon it'll be okay, he just wants to talk" Tobias says with a fake smile.
"No.. dad will hit you again, if you go down there" I say starting to cry.
"Hey no no.. look at me" he says cupping my face. "I'll be alright, he's getting better with his alcohol" he says kissing my forehead and walking downstairs.
I walk into my room and close the door. I don't even wanna know what dad's doing to Tob.
Tobias always tells me that everything's okay and that dad doesn't hit him anymore, but I know those are lies. I've seen his bruises and fresh cuts. Somewhere in my heart tells me that Tobias is leaving me tomorrow, but I can't even bring myself to accept it.
"Shannon honey, come here please" Marcus shouts from downstairs.
I walk down the stairs and smile as I see Tobias sitting at the kitchen table eating. He actually looks okay.
"Here you go" Marcus says as he hands me a bowl of plain chicken noodle soup.
We all eat together in peace, but I swear I could still feel some tension in the air between my dad and Tob. Oh well.. let's just enjoy this meal while we can.
~ The next day before the choosing ceremony ~
"You ready for today big brother?" I ask as I hug Tobias.
"Yeah.. yeah totally" he says fake smiling and looking down at me.
"You better be" I say smiling.
"I am sis.. hey just remember.. I love you always okay?" he says cupping my face.
"I love you too Tob" I say hugging him again as he walks out the door behind Marcus.
I walk back up to my room and lay on my bed. Before I know it, I fall asleep and wake up to some loud banging.
"FUCK" I hear Marcus yell.
I sit up kind of scared, but wanting to know what's wrong. I quickly get out of bed and quietly make my way downstairs.
"Dad.. are you okay?" I ask him as I walk up and gently grab his arm.
He turns around and grabs my arm as he throws me onto the ground.
"WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU TELL TOBIAS TO LEAVE HOME" Marcus says angrily.
"Wha- I.. I didn't dad" I say crying and grabbing my arm.
"BULLSHIT, WHY WOULD HE JUST LEAVE THEN!" He says as he kicks me in my side.
"Ow.. dad- I don't know" I say crying and covering my face.
He kneels down next to me and grabs my chin roughly so that I'm looking him straight in the eyes.
"If you ever.. and I mean ever.. tell anyone about what I just did.. then I will hurt you again!" he says angrily and pushing my head down.
I just lay there crying for a few minutes as Marcus storms out the door. I couldn't believe what had just happened. First.. Tobias leaves and I don't even know what faction he goes into and second.. Marcus had physically hit me, for the first time.
Suddenly I cannot wait until I turn 18.. I definitely ain't gonna stay here without my brother.
