A former public bathroom, located on the lower east side of Manhattan off the intersection of Delancey Street and Allen Avenue, remains abandoned unless the city or a private company has renovated it. The comfort station used to be the source of relief, while shopping on Delancey and Orchard streets before it was shut down. In the early 1980s, I entered the men's restroom to use and there was this man sitting in one of the toilet stalls with his pants down, occupying himself with a book, while some other men in the restroom were behaving suspiciously, loitering. None of the toilet stalls at the moment had no doors in front of them.

Presently, from the looks of it, the restroom was not even safe for rats to occupy. The area has changed with high rise buildings and trendy shops. This restroom has to have many stories of strange activities happening inside, before the place was shut down.

The restroom back in the days looked like it belonged in a movie scene from Serpico or any other classic New York City film made between the 1960s and the mid-1980s.
