The station's concourse area is located between the M-Train on the elevated platform and the L train downstairs. It is close to the Myrtle Avenue Shopping Center, near the border of Bushwick in Brooklyn and Ridgewood in Queens.

I recall the old restrooms that had low partitions and no doors for the toilet stalls. The restroom on the right, which is now the women's room, used to be accessible to men. I once walked in and saw a large Latino man sitting on the last toilet with his pants completely down. He was sitting there confidently and relaxed. Later, they converted the other restroom into a men's room. It also had low partitions and no doors for the toilet stalls, as well as urinals near the entrance. During the station renovation, they added a spacious handicapped toilet with a door that could be locked for privacy.
