Evalynn stops singing and wipes her tears from her cheeks. She closes the mermaid's eyes and rests her hand on the woman's cheek.

"Rest in peace." She whispers and looks to her husband.

He is stern faced and he looks to the baby. "I think she was trying to tell us that the baby will turn human in three hours. Those fisherman tales say that a mermaid can turn human and walk among us." He faces becomes angry. "Those murderers."

Evalynn sweeps the baby into her arms and delicately tries to stop its fussing. She wipes at her tears again and has the baby suck on her knuckle. "Fergus..."

"I'll make them pay for ending a mother's life." He says.

"Fergus..."

"Evalynn?"

She looks up to her husband and then the mermaid. "She wanted us to take care of her baby." She looks at the child in her arms and laughs softly.

He walks up behind her and kisses her neck. "Evalynn, there may be other mermaids that will come for her."

She nodded and looked at the pitcher of milk. "I'd better find out how to feed this young one."

Fergus walks over to the mermaid. "How will she be buried, or have a funeral?"

"I'm not sure, darling, but she will have one with respect." Evalynn said.
