"Hey, I got you something." Dallas spoke, as Ponyboy and I met him on the porch.

"Oh, yeah? What is it? A piece of chewing gum?" I jokingly asked.

"No." Dallas rolled his eyes as he held the front door open for us.

As I plopped down on the couch, Dallas surprisingly sat down next to me.

He dug down in the front pockets of his jeans.

Dallas leaned a little closer to me, as he held his closed hand over my lap.

"Open your hand." Dallas told me impatiently.

I looked at him hesitantly.

"Is it a bug?" I winced at the question.

Dallas looked at me, dumb founded for a second, before he cracked a smile.

"Why would it be a bug? Now open your hands." Dallas let out a chuckle.

"I hope it bites you." Ponyboy said from the kitchen.

"Shut up, Ponyboy." I chuckled.

I held my hands out, and closed my eyes.

Dallas then dropped the item in my hand.

I opened my eyes to see a metal lighter in my hands.

As I took a closer look, there was a small heart engraved on the front.

"Where did you steal that from?" I asked him, as I loved over at him.

Dallas's smile grew wider.

"I didn't steal it, I bought it.  I promise." Dallas put his arm around my shoulders, and gave it a little squeeze.

"Thank you, Dallas." I gave him a sweet smile.

"Awwww." Ponyboy teased.

Dallas picked up a pillow that was on the other side of the couch, and threw it at Ponyboy across the room.

I gave Dallas a glare, and I smacked him in the chest.

Dallas looked back at me instantly.

"What? Whatttt?" Dallas dragged put, sort of in a joking mood.

I didn't think it was very funny.

"Be nice." I crossed my arms over my chest.

"Alright, alright." Dallas said quietly.

Dallas looked over at me, as I faced forward at the TV.

He moved his hand around my shoulder up, and to the side of my head.

Dallas softly pulled my head down onto his shoulder.

"Settle down sweetheart, I'm only joking." Dallas spoke softly to me.

Remembering what Ponyboy and I talked about just moments before, I sat there quietly for a moment.

Ponyboy truly thought Dallas didn't like him.

Dallas wasn't very nice to him.

"Does Ponyboy know that? It doesn't seem like a joke at all, Dallas." I whispered back sort of sternly.

I looked over back at Dallas, who didn't seem to be smiling anymore.

I glanced over at Ponyboy, who was now sitting at the table in the kitchen.

His head seemed to hang low, as he didn't say a word.

Dallas picked at his fingertips nervously.

I could feel myself grow more anxious, as Dallas stayed quiet longer.

I had to say something.

"I mean, he constantly gets botched at by Darry.  That's all he ever hears, give him a break." I spoke to Dallas in a softer tone now.

I laid my head against on Dallas's chest.

I could hear his heart beating rapidly.

"Pony, I didn't mean that, kid." Dallas spoke out.

I looked up at Ponyboy, who gave Dallas a little nod.

Ponyboy then got up, and walked to his room.

The tension in the room got to Ponyboy, so he walked away to be by himself and calm down.

"Thank you, Dallas." I let out a long breath.

Dallas tightened his arm around me.

"Rest a little bit, sweetheart. Close your eyes for a while." Dallas told me.

"I'm not even tired." I replied.

"You look tired." Dallas looked me up and down.

...

I honestly didn't even remember falling asleep.

All I remember was waking up startled when everyone started coming home from work.

Everyone was loud, yelling across the house to each other.

Stomping loud through the kitchen.

My eyes jolted open, and my head was still rested on Dallas's chest.

Man, I slept all afternoon.

I sat up straight, and rubbed my eyes.

"I thought you said you weren't even tired?" Dallas leaned forward and seemed to whisper in my ear.

"I'm not... anymore." I giggled back at him.

"Awwww, you too like boyfriend and girlfriend now?" Steve sarcastically joked.

Oh boy, here we fucking go.

I could just hear it now...

Dallas screaming at Steve at the top of his lungs on how I was nothing.

Dallas stood up from the couch.

"So what? You got something to say, Steve?" Dallas asked sternly.

Oh? I wasn't expecting that.

Dallas looked around the room, everything went quiet.

Dallas's eyes darted around the room quickly, as they bounced from every one of their faces.

"Anyone else got anything to say?" Dallas spoke loudly again.

Dallas then took a deep breath, and sat back down.

"I don't believe it." Steve simply said, shrugging.

"Oh yeah?" Dallas said.

Normally, Dallas would have used that as an excuse to argue or start a fight.

Instead, Dallas looked at me with a grin on his face.

His hands quickly reached up to the sides of my face.

Dallas pulled me closer to him, and he smashed his lips with mine.

I couldn't believe Dallas kissed me in front of everyone.

I can't believe he did it willingly, and stone cold sober.

He wanted to do it.

He wanted to show them, and me that he didn't care what the others thought.

I didn't care what they thought either.

I brought my hand up, and behind Dallas's neck, as I kissed him back.

"Finally." Johnny spoke quietly.
