The next morning, Ricky comes by at 6 to get his bag. He had driven her to school in comfortable silence; though she noticed he seemed a bit off.
When they had gotten to school however, a simple few words were exchanged about their next tutoring session were exchanged and ways were parted, returning to their hostile ignorence of each other, basically tolerating being in the same friend group.
It was weird to Nini, the feeling of being on and off, but she let it go, knowing it wasnt really the time to push him.

It was thursday now, theyre sitting in the library after school hours, trying to through a subchapter. Nini had already started working on their experiment the day prior. She has other students coming for tutoring in a few minutes, the ones actually assigned from the office as part of the credit system.
"i can't do this"
"you can Bowen stop freaking yourself out" she leans closer, going over the question with him.
A few seconds later, two younger girls make their way to the table, pointed out by the librarian. Nini turns her attention to them. Theyre smiling, eager and big eyed. "Hey! I'm Luna"
"and im June" the girl next to her smiles. Nini's tutor students are freshman.
"Hey guys, take a seat. I just wanted this first session to be introductory, My name is Nina but you can call me Nini" she smiles at them, about to continue when she notices their focus happens to be on the curly haired boy next to her, she pauses. Luna looks more intimidated and June more swooney.
Nini turns her head towards Ricky, raising her eyebrows. He smiles sheepishly.
"Right Ricky why don't you go sit a couple tables away?"
"really sweetheart?"
"just move doofus"
He raises his hands up and shrugs his shoulders, picking up the practice papers and moving. Luna looks relieved. Nini continues their session, asking them to write down topics they find difficult and trying to come up with a schedule, working with both some days and individually the others. Around 5:30 they leave.
Nini and Ricky continue to study till 6:30. She watches him run laps on the field till 7:30, sitting on the bleachers and reading quietly. He drives her home again. It's quieter, a bit more awkward than the drive usually is; he's overthinking about something at home and she has no idea.
Before she goes in, he calls out softly. "hey um, I really need to get a good grade on this, can we study at my place after classes tomorrow, they end earlier than usual"
"yeah, yeah sure"
"goodnight Nini"
