I Let Myself Want You

There were quite a few reasons why I decided to call Malcolm, why I decided to offer him a job at Presbyterian. First of all, I obviously had too much work lately. Being both the Chief and the head of neuro was a lot, and I couldn't handle all of that on my own, so I decided that I needed a new head of neuro, and considering all the surgeons that worked here, I couldn't really trust anybody with this position. That's why I had to call someone I could trust, so that's why I chose Malcolm. Even though I knew that he was working in Boston, I also knew that it wouldn't really be a big change for him, if he was to suddenly move to New York, because he didn't have anything that would keep him in Boston, so I knew he'd agree to come and work for me.

And since he was basically the only person I could trust when it came to neurosurgery, he was also the person I chose not only for becoming the new head of the department, but my own personal doctor as well.

I've been having a lot of weird headaches lately, to the point that I would feel weak and throw up, so it concerned me a little. And since I was a doctor and I was at the hospital every single day, I decided to do some tests, and just to be safe, I even did a CT and an MRI. What I found kind of explained the weird headaches, but just knowing about the whole thing, gave me a totally different kind of a headache.

It was a meningioma, in the occipital lobe, which would explain the double vision I started developing lately, which kind of forced me to cut back on surgeries a little, because my sight hasn't been the best lately.

That's actually the main reason I brought Malcolm to New York. While we were in med school, he told me to call him if I ever needed a kickass neurosurgeon that wasn't me, and well, I finally had the chance to do that, because I desperately needed his help now, since I couldn't exactly operate on myself.

I was actually waiting for Malcolm in my office, because I finally had to tell him all about it, and I didn't need to wait that long, because he showed up at the exact time I told him to come. "You know, calling you Chief is a big turn off for me. I might refuse the job offer simply because of that," were his first words, when he came into the room and looked at what was hanging on the door.

I haven't seen Malcolm ever since we finished med school, but we texted each other sometimes. I was actually surprised when I saw him today, seeing that he hasn't changed a bit. Maybe he truly was a vampire. "I offered you to be the head of the department, I doubled your wage from Boston, what more do you want?" I asked, looking at him impatiently. I needed to do everything in my power to keep him here.

He came to sit in the chair on the other side of the desk and frowned at me deeply. "I want you to tell me why you suddenly decided to hire me at your hospital," he said sternly, like he was mad for not knowing. "By the way, how did you even become the chief? Not fair, mate. Is it because it was your dad's hospital? I heard about his passing by the way. I wanted to come to the funeral, but it's not like I knew the guy, so I decided against it," he shrugged, giving me a sad look. "I'm sorry for your loss though, I know he was important to you."

"It's fine," I shrugged absentmindedly.

"So," he continued, seeing as I wasn't really keen on talking about my dad. "I missed you as well, I guess, but I just don't understand. So, why did you hire me, Yohan?" He asked. I didn't feel like words were necessary here, so I just turned the monitor in his direction, to show him the scans. "Oh," he said as soon as he saw it. The tumor was big, it's not like he even had to look closer. "So you didn't miss me at all. You just need something from me. And you really needed to hire me because of one surgery? I don't get it," he said, while he was still frowning deeply.
