●When Shadows Fade●

The rain pelted against the windowpanes, its rhythm providing a quiet accompaniment to the silence that blanketed the small apartment. Aki sat on the couch, a cup of steaming tea in his hands. The room was dimly lit, but the glow of the city lights outside painted the walls in soft hues of blue and purple.

A soft knock on the door broke his reverie. Setting his cup down, he walked over and opened the door, revealing you, soaked from head to toe, shivering from the cold. Without a word, he pulled you inside, wrapping a warm blanket around you.

"You could've called," he murmured, his tone carrying a hint of concern.

You gave him a sheepish smile. "I wanted to surprise you. Though, I didn't account for the rain."

He chuckled softly. "You always were one for dramatic entrances."

As you settled onto the couch, Aki fetched another cup of tea for you. The two of you sat in a companionable silence, watching the rain cascade down the windows.

"Why are you here?" he finally asked, not unkindly.

You sighed. "I wanted to be with you, Aki. To be there for you, like you've always been there for me."

He looked at you, his eyes filled with a mixture of surprise and tenderness. "Even after everything? After the chaos and the danger?"

You nodded. "Especially after everything. Life isn't just about the battles we fight. It's about the moments in between. The quiet moments, like this one."

Aki leaned in, his forehead resting against yours. "You've always seen past the darkness, haven't you?"

You smiled gently. "Only because I've had you by my side."

The rain outside slowly began to taper off, the sounds of the city coming alive once more. But inside the apartment, time seemed to stand still.
