"I can't believe this." You step back and have to find a chair to sit on, or else risk fainting and hurting the child on your chest.
"- I thought you were only pregnant because... I mean — you died in my timeline, Grace. We all assumed Kiri was a gift to us because of that.. a way of Eywa thanking us for seeing what we accomplished."
You look around at the others as they all ponder the results that show on the screen.
"This just doesn't make sense.
If not for that, then why was she born?"
Evelyn offers to take Spider as you slowly catch your breath.
Grace is just as stunned as you are, but it's not something she finds to be a total surprise. She had considered all options here from what you'd told her, but it seemed a faint chance it could ever happen.
"Shit." Trudy remarks as she leans back in the wheelchair. "Are you sure you didn't get knocked up by N'deh? I've seen how close you two get."
"Oh, don't even start." Grace at least smiles at the half-assed joke.
"This isn't a Virgin Mary situation is it?" Trudy pushes on. "—Giving birth to pandora Jesus? What if this is some Star Wars bullshit? Wasn't Darth Vader born without a father?"
"Trudy." You call out.
"Sorry." She shrugs with a smirk. "Trying to lighten the mood."
"How far am I?" Grace asks Evelyn.
"Well, we can do an ultrasound if you'd like."
You watch as she sets her up, the two of them discussing dates back and forth and how long it's been since she switched bodies and all.
"You don't think you had a fetus in your human body and it got transferred to this form maybe?" Trudy yet again as Evelyn hands her back her son.
"Trudy." You call out yet again.
"Alright, alright. Shutting up."
"A bit too small to tell exactly." Evelyn admits. "But definitely around the time you transferred, I'd say."
"Holy shit." Grace is the one using foul language this time, staring at the monitor as Evelyn moves the device a bit to show the fetus better.
You stand from your chair, slowly approaching the screen as the little bean shows clear as day.
You know there's no way it's her, but — your fingers graze the screen and a tear falls from your cheek, anyway.
"Kiri." You whisper so quietly that nobody else can hear, your heart both healing and breaking at the thought of seeing her again. Of seeing them again.
What did this mean?
You needed some time to think this through, but only after making sure Grace was okay.
She insists it's okay to head out, and would come find you later after you've had your time to see Jake.
Which, you're awful surprised when it's Mo'at you find sitting at the foot of his medical bed.
She has various items, and seems to be doing some sort of acupuncture.
If only gives you flashbacks to poor Kiri as she laid on the ground, quiet and unmoving.
An all too familiar scene.
"You're here." You call out as you shut the door, and come to sit beside her.
"Of course I am." She muses, continuing on with her practice as you settle in.
"I figured you would be helping the children after... after what they saw.. after what happened to Eytukan." You try to skirt around the shooting topic, unsure how she feels about speaking on it.
It's been hard on her and those children trying to work through it.
