Max is wheeling Jake in after their latest training in the smaller gym. He's working a set routine of so many hours in and out of the contraptions and exoskeleton to give himself a break — and it was the perfect time to stop for a bit.
Since here you sit, next to your avatar as she's resting on a meeical table — with wires and stickers all over her so she's kept under constant care while growing the baby within.
Jake wheels in next to you when he's further into the room, and reaches over to touch the avatars belly.
Not far enough along to feel movement all that much from the outside, but-
"And here you are." Norm turns the screen around, showing the little one moving around in utero as he's pressing the ultrasound device on her abdomen.
"Little ones doing just fine."
Jake seems to have a few tears in his eyes at the sight, and squeezes his hand gently at the top part of her tummy.
"Look at that." He muses, his smile wide as ever. "They're so small."
"Not for long." You reach out and place a hand on his thigh. "They get pretty big when born in comparison to human babies. You've seen them around."
"Do you two want to know the gender? It's a bit early, but I could-"
"No." And "Sure." Are said in unison.
Jake withdraws his hand from the avatar and places it on top of yours — looking at you.
"Oh? No, then."
"Well, if Jake wants to know - he can. I don't. I want it to be a surprise, I don't want to have any sort of mental image on them or .. I don't know."
He squeezes your hand. "You don't want to have too much hope for it being a past child." And rubs his thumb along the back of your hand.
"It's okay. Whatever you want. If you want to wait, we can wait."
"Well now I just feel bad being the only one who knows." Norm laughs.
"It's okay, we trust you." You insist to him. "—-and I wouldn't be mad if you wanted to tell Trudy."
"I won't, fingers crossed. Max may know since he's been helping me do the check ups — and Evelyn will-"
"It's alright." You follow up. "I don't mind. You kind of have to know being the resident doctors, anyways."
Grace happens to walk in at that moment, knowing you two were here with Norm.
And it brings a certain ... tug on your heart that you didn't have before. She had missed all of this. Far gone by then.
"Hey, Grace." Jake greets her as she paces in, checking out all the different monitors and such.
"Wow, almost thirteen weeks already? Your little one looks great. Plenty of room and all." She enters with; and places a hand on each of your heads as she acknowledges the two of you, and sighs happily. "—Where has the time gone."
"Don't mention the gender, Grace. They don't want to know." Norm warns her before she can even fully step over to see the monitor closer.
"I won't, I won't." She stops in her tracks, and turns to the both of you before she can look over it. "Is it okay if I know? I won't look at the screen if you don't want me to catch any spoilers."
"Go ahead." You insist, smiling so sweetly as Norm brings it up to her.
It's hard not to cry in that moment, getting to experience this after wanting it for so long.
Trudy may not be here, escorting some of the scientists out to hometree and all since early this morning — but she'd get to take a look at the scans later if she wishes.
