“You needed to learn respect,” Qingheng-Jun hissed.

“And burning me—scarring me—that was the answer?” Lanzhan roared, unable to contain his fury. He grabbed his father by the front of his suit and spun him, slamming him against the Jaguar. “Get the fuck out of Here. Now . And don’t you ever come back.”

“Lanzhan!”

He looked over and saw Weiying standing there, His eyes wide.

“Go inside, Weiying,” Lanzhan told him. “I’ve got this.”

“Weiying, hm?” Qingheng-Jun drawled. He grabbed Lanzhan’s wrists and pushed him back before he smoothed out his shirt. “What a lovely name.”

“Go fuck yourself,” Weiying spat at him. “I know who you are and what you did. You better leave.”

Qingheng-Jun held his hands up. “Fine, fine. I know when I’m not welcome.”

“Do you?” Lanzhan hissed.

Qingheng-Jun ignored him as he opened the car door. He looked back at Weiying then, his lips turning up in a cold smile. “Tell your uncle I said hello, Weiying.”

Then he got in the car and shut the door. Weiying walked over to Lanzhan and they watched as Qingheng-Jun drove away, standing silently until the red glow of the brake lights disappeared. Lanzhan let out a shaky breath before he ran both hands down his face, feeling the tremble in his limbs and the adrenaline that was pumping through his veins.

Weiying put His hand on his back. “Are you okay?”

“No, not really,” he said honestly.

He turned towards him and wrapped his arms around Him, drawing Him against him. He needed to hold Him, to know that He was okay. He pressed His face into His hair and breathed in His scent, which had become so achingly familiar to him.

Weiying buried His face in his chest and held him tightly. He could feel the way he was shaking, and could hear the unsteadiness of his breathing. He rubbed soothing circles on his back until his breaths calmed.

“We should go inside,” He murmured softly.

“Yeah.” He huffed out a breath. “I could use a drink.”

They went inside. Lanzhan went directly to the liquor cabinet in the kitchen and grabbed a bottle of whiskey, trying to ignore the way that his hands were shaking. He pulled two glasses out of a cupboard and set them down on the counter; a little too hard, the sound too loud in the deathly-quiet house. He poured them each a shot before he turned back towards Weiying.

He had hesitated by the breakfast nook, watching him with a furrow in His brow, His lips quirked downwards. Lanzhan walked over to Him slowly, offering Him the glass. He took it from him, not quite able to meet his gaze. He took a tentative sip of His whiskey.

“I’m so sorry,” Lanzhan said. “About all of that. I wasn’t—I didn’t—I have no idea how he even knows we’re here. How he found out about you.”

Weiying set his glass down on the table. He wouldn’t quite look at him as He said, “My uncle knows him.”

Lanzhan blinked, shocked. “Song Lan?”

“Yes” He shook His head. “Song Lan.” Weiying let out a shaky breath before He finally looked up at him. “I guess...they’ve had some business dealings in the past. Uncle mentioned it before the wedding.”

Lanzhan pressed his lips into a thin line, looking down into his whiskey. He huffed out a breath. “Small world, I guess.”

Weiying’s expression contorted into one of rage. “That bastard! I should have known he was up to something when he brought it up. I swear to La—”

Lanzhan set his drink down and put his hands on His shoulders. “No. Don’t blame yourself, okay? They’re fucked up people.”

Weiying looked up at him. “I am so sorry, Lanzhan. I should have told you what my uncle said. It’s just, with everything going on I didn’t even think about it, and then we got Here and I didn’t think it mattered. I’m so sorry.”

He pulled His into his chest as he closed his eyes and let out a shaky breath. “No, no, it’s okay, love. You couldn’t have known, okay? Neither of us could have. I’m not mad at you, okay?”

Weiying wrapped His arms around him and squeezed him tightly. “What about you? Are you okay? I know that couldn’t have been easy.”

He pulled back and looked down at him. “I...I don’t know. I haven’t seen my father in almost twenty years. Since I was a kid. It...it brought a lot of shit back. Painful, dark shit.”

Weiying reached up and gently brushed his fingers over his back. He closed his eyes and leaned into his touch, feeling comforted by him. Lanzhan cupped the back of His head and turned to catch His lips with his own. Then he pressed his forehead against His.

“It doesn’t matter now,” Lanzhan murmured. “He’s gone, and if he’s half as smart as he thinks he is, he won’t come back. Ever. I’m not gonna let him get to me, get into my head. I’ve spent too many years undoing the damage he did.”

Weiying peeked up at him. “I’m so sorry, for everything he did to you.”

Lanzhan shook his head. “No. I’m good.” He kissed him again. “And I’m not gonna let him ruin the rest of our honeymoon, either. And you shouldn’t let your uncle ruin it for you.”

Weiying grimaced. “I won’t.”

Lanzhan stepped back and grabbed his whiskey before he tipped it down his throat. He let out a breath before he looked up at Him again.

“In the god of total honesty...I should tell you,” Lanzhan said quietly. He cleared his throat. “Song lan cornered me, on the day of the wedding, and told me that Wen Qing had called him. He tried…” He let out a bitter chuckle. “He tried to get me to leave you. To come clean and call off the wedding.”

Weiying let out a gasp. “Are you fucking kidding me?”

“No,” Lanzhan said with a grimace. “I basically told him to fuck off.” He looked at His. “But he wasn’t wrong. I was gonna marry you for citizenship. I did marry you for citizenship.”

Weiying reached out and took his hand. “But it’s so much more than that now, isn’t it?”

He smiled softly as he brought His hand to his mouth and kissed His knuckles. “It is...so much more. More than I ever could have hoped for. I...I love you so much, Weiying, that I can’t even fathom it.”

A blush rose in His cheeks. “And I love you too. I just...once I got to know you, I couldn’t help myself. It was too easy. You are so amazing, Lanzhan, more amazing than you realize, I think. And I am so, so glad that I agreed to go on this wild adventure with you.”

His smile widened. “Me too.”

The corner of His lips pulled up into a smirk. “We were...just two people who weren’t meant to fall in love, but did, huh?”

Lanzhan chuckled as he slid his hands around His waist and pulled Him to him. He kissed His softly for a moment before he pulled back with a smirk of his own. “Can’t fight a love like ours, can we?”

Weiying kissed him again, His mouth lingering on his with the taste of whiskey and desire. “No, we can’t.”
