Y/n's pov "Last lap was a 1:37:384. Keep pushing the car kiddo your doing great. Currently at p2" Andrea says as we move into Q2. "Down to the final 10 now. Vesti has the fastest lap. Half a second ahead of you."
"Okay that's fine" I say as I begin another lap, pushing the car to its limit because I desperately want poll position for the race tomorrow. Frederic Vesti, who currently has the quickest lap, is my number one competitor this season so I will be bummed if he beats me this qualifying. Im currently 5pts ahead of him in the championship rankings so we're neck and neck for the drivers championship. McLaren are 23pts clear of Prema racing too which is who he races for.
"That lap was a 1:36:998. Only two tenths of a second behind now keep going" Andrea says after I complete another lap. "Any problems with the car?"
"Nope it's feeling all good. Just got to watch my tire temperatures in this heat" I say as I take the first corner with ease.
"Take it easy for the next couple laps. I can't see us dropping from top five by the time Q3 starts. Also Vesti has just put in a 1:36:284 so your gonna have to fight for your life if you want this pole position Wyatt"
Damn Vesti is quick. He must have had some new engine parts fitted so he's at a major advantage but as we know I will not be going down without a fight when I know my whole family, friends and Lizzie are watching. After a few more laps it's time for Q3 which is the final five and we are all setting our fastest laps in the time remaining. Whoever is fastest gets pole position.
"This is it y/n. You've got 12 minutes to beat Vesti and we wouldn't be surprised if he beats his current time. His car has got some serious pace so were gonna have to invest in new parts for our cars to match their development" Andrea explains as I turn out of the final corner.
"Sounds good to me. Let's get this over and done with" I say slamming my foot onto the accelerator. I love the speed of these cars they make me feel unstoppable and I'm sure I want to do this for the rest of my life.
"You've got this kiddo. This is your first lap of Q3"
———————————————————————— Lizzie's pov "Do you think he can do it?" I ask Ricky as we watch y/n fly around the track on the screens in the pits.
"I'm not sure Elizabeth. Vesti's car looks unstoppable but I know my son and he will give it his all no matter what and that's what I love about him" he explains making me smile at how highly he speaks of y/n.
"I believe in him" I say as we watch y/n finish another lap, him still two tenths of a second behind after getting a 1:36:573 on that lap.
"This will be his last lap there's only one minute left so he won't have time to go around again" Ricky says keeping his eyes glued to the screen. "Come on son" he mumbles.
Come on honey badger.
———————————————————————— Y/n's pov "That lap was a 1:36:573 which is two tenths of a second behind. This is your final lap so give it your all honey badger. Even if you don't get poll we're proud of you kiddo" Andrea says and I don't reply not wanting to lose focus on my driving. I take the first corner with insane precision making sure to not go wide before fully accelerating around the second corner so I don't lose any speed which could be crucial. I weave through the third and fourth corner before going around the fifth maintaining as much speed as possible. My neck is fucking killing me from all the g-force but that's the least of my worries right now.
After taking the next few corners perfectly I go around the 11th turn neatly before slamming down my accelerator and enabling drs at the perfect time. Almost there now just a few more corners to go. I'm pretty sure I hear the mumbled noise of voices through my comms but I'm way to focused to make out what their saying. After getting to the end of the long straight I stick to my perfect rhythm and before I know it I'm going around the final corner slamming down my accelerator when coming out of it and it stays down until I'm over the finish line. Did I do it?
"You did it! I'm so fucking proud of you y/n" Andrea exclaims. I did it. I fucking did it. My dad must be ecstatic.
"How quick was it?" I ask as I complete my cool down lap.
"1:35:737. Which is a new track record. We're all proud of you kiddo, I'll put your dad on comms" he says and then I hear some shuffling in the background until my dad speaks up.
"Son you did it! I'm so proud of you and I feel so happy to be your father y/n and I know your mum would say the same" he says making me smile. There's no better feeling then making those you love the most proud. I can't wait to see my mum back in Australia. She usually comes to my races but this time work didn't let her go which sucks but she promised to be watching on tv which makes me think she's here with us.
"Thanks dad I'm pulling into the pits now" I say pulling into the pit lane, the crew wheeling me back into the garage when I pull in. I am quick to get out of my car and take off my helmet to be met with multiple bodies running at me and before I know it I'm squished in the middle of a big group hug made up of me, Lizzie, dad, Chris and scar. Today just went from shit to awesome.
