“My car’s parked at your apartment.”

“Shit. That’s right.” Hw frowned. “Still. It’s a long drive back, and you’ll already be at my place to pick up your car.”

Weiying quirked his brow at him. “You sure?"

Lanzhan nodded and offered him a lopsided smile. “Yeah, I’m sure. No reason for you to make the drive all the way down to your place.”

“What about work in the morning?” Weiying asked.

Lanzhan waved him off. “You already scheduled the day off. I’ll just call out. It’s not a big deal.”

“Wow, Lan Wangji is calling out of work?” Weiying let out an incredulous laugh. “I don’t think I’ve seen you miss a day once since I started working for you.”

Lanzhan took his drink back from him. “That’s because I haven’t. But this has been an incredibly trying weekend, and I’d like nothing more than to sleep in the lounge in sweats all day watching bad cable TV.” He looked over at Weiying with a smirk. “It can even be Teen Moms, if you want.”

Weiying returned the smile. “That sounds amazing.” Then he groaned. “Except we can’t. We have our interviews tomorrow.”

Lanzhan rubbed his face again as he let out a groan. “Shit.”

“Yeah.” he peeked up at him with a shy smile. “But I’d be down for bad TV and maybe some take out afterwards.”

The corner of his lips tugged up as Lanzhan quelled the burst of happiness that bubbled up in his chest.

“Okay,” he said.

After a few minutes of silence, Weiying quietly asked, “Do you think we know enough about each other to pull this off?”

Lanzhan looked over at his, his countenance serious. “I guess we’ll find out tomorrow.”

Despite how tired he was, Weiying found that sleep was almost impossible. After he had bid Lanzhan goodnight, he had changed into pajamas and fallen into bed. his eyes had shut and then...nothing. He was staring at the inside of his eyelids.

It wasn’t that the bed wasn’t comfortable. It was . The sheets were silky and the pillows were soft, but Weiying just could not fall asleep. He couldn’t shut his brain off. He was stressed out about the interview in the morning. He thought he knew everything there was to know about Lanzhan, but what if he was wrong? And what if he forgot something crucial about his, like his birthday?

If they screwed this up, Weiying was probably going to prison and Lanzhan would be deported. Their families would find out, and all of this would have been for nothing. They would lose everything. Anxiety twisted Weiying’s gut into nervous knots and kept his brain wide awake.

Finally, with a frustrated sigh, Weiying threw the covers off and got out of bed. He paused with his hand on the doorknob, wondering where he was going and what he was planning to do.

He took a breath before he stepped out into the quiet apartment. He had spent quite a bit of time here in the last few weeks, but he had always felt...out of place. Guarded. he had always been hise with Lanzhan. Sure, he was just asleep down the hall, but it would have felt weird to check it out with him right there.
