Finally, Jiang Cheng spoke. "That's...the truth?" Weiying nodded. His eyes narrowed. "Then what was all that shit the lawyer was saying? he was asking if this seemed...sudden. Suspicious. Illegal ."

"They do that to everyone. It's standard," Weiying said smoothly. he let go of Lanzhan's hand to cross his arms over his chest and jutted one hip out, which Lanzhan had come to learn meant that Weiying wasn't fucking around. "We're telling the truth. We were expecting Lanzhan's visa to go through, which was why we were taking our time before going public with our relationship. But then Lanzhan's application was denied, and it backed us into a corner. So here we are."

Huaisung appraised Lanzhan with one hand on his hip. "Why was your application denied?"

Lanzhan rubbed the back of his neck, wincing slightly. His mind was whirling as he tried to process everything that had just happened, and his mouth was throbbing from where Jiang Cheng had punched him. Note to self: avoid being hit by Jiang Cheng , he thought.

"I...left the country for work," he said helplessly "When I wasn't supposed to."

Huaisung crossed his arms and arched his brow at him. "That's funny. Last I checked, the Lotus Pier isn't part of the Nie Clan, either."

Weiying looked at his brother, his brow suddenly knitting in concern. "You didn't tell his immigration lawyer we were here, did you?"

"He said Yunmeng Island." Jiang Cheng gave him a flat look. "So I said we were on Yunmeng Island. You're welcome."

Lanzhan and Weiying breathed a collective sigh of relief. Jiang Cheng's eyes flickered between the two of them.

"He said that if...if you guys were lying, you could go to prison for five years," Jiang Cheng said slowly. "So if he thought you guys were on Yunmeng, I'm gonna back you up on that."

"Thanks, Jiang Cheng." Weiying offered him a shaky smile. "I'm gonna tell Mom and Dad too, before we go. The immigration lawyer is supposed to call all of you guys to check out our relationship."

"You think they're gonna take that well?" Huaisung asked curiously.

Weiying let out a sigh. "Better than Jiang Cheng, hopefully." he eyed Lanzhan. "Or Lanzhan might have a shiner to match that bruise on his lip."

Lanzhan touched his thumb to his lip and winced as it smarted. He could feel it swelling already. He just hoped it didn't bruise too badly. Jiang Cheng gave him an apologetic look before he extended his hand.

"I'm sorry about that, man," Jiang Cheng said apologetically. "I get protective over Weiying 'cause he's a fucking idiot and he dates assholes. I thought it was more of the same."

"Hey, I'm right here," Weiying protested.

"Yeah, maybe you'll learn something," Jiang Cheng replied.

Lanzhan cleared his throat as he shook Jiang Cheng's hand. "Don't worry about it. Can't say your concerns weren't justified, especially since someone referred to me as Asshole for quite some time." He shot Weiying a look.

"Sorry." Weiying tucked his hair behind his ear as he offered a shepish smile. "I mean, you are kind of an asshole. But it's what I like about you."

Jiang Cheng gagged dramatically. "Gross."

Huaisung held his hands up. "Okay, are we done here? We're all on the same page? No one's gonna punch someone else?"

Jiang Cheng looked at Lanzhan, his lips pursed. "Well...that was kind of a cheap shot. As an apology, I'll let you take a swing at me."

"God, Jiang Cheng!" Weiying gave him an exasperated look. "If you both go home all banged up, that's gonna look really suspicious. What are you gonna tell Mom and Dad? Granny?"

"Friendly sparring match." Jiang Cheng shrugged with a grin. "Alpha will be Alpha, right?"

Huaisung gave them all a mischievous smile as he tapped his finger against his lips. "I don't know...that does sound fair. Thoughts, Lanzhan?"

Lanzhan swallowed. "Well, I mean-"

"Come on. Just do it." Jiang Cheng shook himself before he jutted his chin out, ready for a hit. "One punch. Call it even."

Lanzhan looked at Weiying, who just rolled his eyes.

"He's not gonna let it go, so just punch him," Weiying told him. "Do us all a favor and knock him out, will you?"

Lanzhan exhaled. "Alright..."

He brought his fist back and punched Jiang Cheng square in the chin. Jiang Cheng hit the mat with a resounding smack. He lay on his back for a moment and Lanzhan felt his breath hitch in his throat, wondering if he really had knocked him out.

Then Jiang Cheng sat upright and wiped the blood staining his lips on the sleeve of his shirt. He offered Lanzhan a grin. "Fuck, you punch hard."

Lanzhan extended his hand and helped Jiang Cheng to his feet. "So, we're good now?"

Jiang Cheng kept his grip on Lanzhan's hand for a moment longer as he said, "As long as you don't fuck with my brother, we're good."
