The Glade Parents:

I laughed and nodded. My husband slipped the thin, silver, band on my left hand. I wrapped my arms around his neck and kissed him, "I love you husband."

"I love you wifey."

I pulled the rest of the small bags out of the crate. More leggings and a new sweater for me, underwear for both of us, female supplies for me, a shirt for newt with cargo pants, and socks. The usuals. Newt grabbed something from the box. It was a plain white box made of thin cardboard. He opened the end and dumped out the contents into his hand. Three white sticks fell out.

"What the bloody. What are these?" My husband questioned.

I knew what they were almost immediately. "Those are for later. Maybe." I said and snatched them from him. "Just leave them alone for now."

Newt looked confused, "More woman stuff?"

"Um yes," I replied. I slipped them into my hoodie pocket.

Newt shrugged and folded his new clothes, put them on our shelf, and then flopped on the bed for a few moments while I put away my own things.

The two of us joined our fellow Gladers at the bonfire. We got there just as the boys threw their burning sticks on the pile.

"I was wondering when you would show up," Daniel passed us both jars.

Newt sipped his so I could pour mine into his.

"Figured you were busy," Minho walked over with a smirk.

I blushed, "Come on guys."

Minho winked at me, "Oh come on. I'm expecting to be an uncle."

Newt shoved his friend, "Why don't you go fight Gally eh? Maybe you won't get your butt kicked as hard this time."

"Very funny."

My husband laughed. I snuggled into his side and rested my head on his shoulder. Newt wrapped his arm around me. Daniel sat down next to us, watching the others. The newbie walked over and awkwardly stood a few feet away.

"Hey greenie," Newt patted the blanket. "Come on man."

The greenie walked over and sat near the edge of our blanket. I grabbed the spare one next to me and put it around him, "Don't want you getting sick on your first night do we?"

He smiled and shook his head, "Thanks."

I smiled and ruffled his hair, "You're welcome kiddo."

"Gosh, you're nice," The boy said.

Newt patted my leg, "Zoe just adopts people. You're part of the family now."

When the bonfire had burned down enough Gally poured a bucket of water on it. We all walked back to our huts.

I collapsed on the bed and pulled my sweater off. My shorts and tank top were still on the bed so I put those on and waited for Newt to return from bed check. He walked in five minutes later.

"Poor fellow is crying himself to sleep," Newt said as he put his harness on the table.

I slid under the covers and pulled my legs up to my chest with my arms wrapped around them, "He's too young for this."

"Can't be older than 13. I was 15 when they put me in this place. Just barely made it then."

"Wish I knew where the greenies come from. I don't even remember myself. Dang creators."

My husband sat down on the edge of our bed and pulled off his shoes, "I think he'll adjust fine. You did."

I chuckled, "Only because I had someone looking out for me." My hand squeezed his shoulder. Newt got under the blanket and pulled me over to his side of the bed," Don't be such a stranger."

I kissed his neck and traced a scar on his chest.  Newt grabbed my leg and pulled it over him. He rubbed little circles on my thigh as we lay in the darkness.

The next morning brought a gray, cool day. It had rained sometime during the night which made everything slick and wet. Newt was already gone when I woke up. He had tucked the blankets around me like he always did. I pulled myself out of bed and headed for the washrooms. No one else was awake yet. The glow of the sun was just appearing beyond the walls. Why was Newt up so early? I scrubbed out my mouth and washed my face before walking towards the meeting hut.

As I approached the structure I could hear hushed voices. I immediately recognized Newts among them. I stopped in the doorway and listened.

"It's been two years!" Winston said. "Two years and nothing."

Minho answered him, "I am doing the best i can! It's not our fault. The dang creators did this to us!"

"Gentlemen, please calm down," Alby said. "Listen whose fault it does not matter. Point is we're all stuck in this freaking-"

Newt noticed me and hushed Alby. He stood up, walked over, and hugged me, "Good morning. I thought I'd let you sleep in."

I leaned against his chest, "Thanks."

"I say we give it a month," Gally said.

"Fine," Alby said and crossed his arms. "One month and then we will reevaluate."

Newt nodded, "Done."

Gally walked out with a huff.

"What was that about?" I asked.

"Just Gally being his usual shuckface self," Minho replied.

Newt tucked a strand of hair behind my ear, "Nothing you need to worry about babe." I could tell Newt was anxious about something.

The greenie ran towards us as Newt and I walked back to our hut.

(Y'all I was watching the death cure while writing this and a certain scene came on...brb while I go bawl my eyes out.)

"Zoe!" He panted, clearly out of breath. "My name! I figured out my name. It's chuck!"

"Ah good on you mate!" Newt clapped his shoulders.

"It's nice to meet you chuck," I said and shook his hand. "Welcome to the glade. Did you sleep okay?"

His nose wrinkled, "Winston snores."

Chuck hopped excitedly, "I gotta go find Daniel!" And took off running.

"Don't poke the bear too hard!" I laughed.
