Chapter 1: Chosen

Cloves POV
I was called to the principals office. Why? I didn't know. 'I didn't get into a fight did I? Not this week no..did I throw any knives at anyone? Yea but their to scared to snitch.' I open the door to the principals office, "come in clove close the door."

"Why am I here?" I question "well we have footage of you throwing a small knife to a girl about 30 feet away from you." He says "I did but don't worry I only cut off some strands of her hair it's fine. Am-am I gonna be punished for this?!" "Well actually...you have been chosen." "Chosen for wha- wait really?!" I say excitedly. I've always been the top student in the academy since I was 8 however I'm only 17 (yes I changed her age just to fit what happens later in the story.." most people get chosen at 18! "Yes clove the academy is picking you to volunteer for the 74th hunger games, you will have about a year to train as the 73rd reaping will be held tomorrow." I could not hold my excitement "Thank you! Thank you so much!" I say as I walk out practically skipping "oh! Who will be my partner?" "Oh we just talked to him before you it's Cato Hadley." He says casually but when I heard his name all that was going through my mind was 'CATO?!?! UGHHH he's sooo obnoxious thinks he's better than everyone especially me!' I roll my eyes that totally ruined it! I'll have to train with him for a whole year! As I'm in my thoughts I bump into someone in the hall way and fall to the ground "OUCH" I say "sorry.." a deep voice replies while offering me a hand. I was about to stupidly take it before I saw the face of the guy. Cato. Ugh I roll my eyes, push away his hand and get up "I don't need your help! Watch where your going." I was about to leave when he put a hand on my shoulder and turned me to him "your the one who should've stopped I could barely see you shorty!" I scoff and impulsively punch him in the face. He scoffs while wiping a bit of blood from his lip. "You know..I don't usually hit girls but you hit first so!" He says before pinning me to the ground "OW" I say "you little bitch!" I say before slapping him then crawling back up since I'm much smaller than him. When I get up he starts charging at me before someone holds him back and someone holds me back. Our trainers farina and Collin are holding us back. And pull us into an empty class. "You two understand that you'll have to team up if you even want a chance of surviving!!" Farina my trainer yells. Cato looks down and says "I'm sorry. It won't happen again." I roll my eyes "well I'm not sorry! He was being a jerk!" I say as I try to walk out but before I reach the door, Collin says "if you walk out of this classroom right now you will be out of the program and you will not be volunteering for the 74th hunger games." And I freeze. I grip my knife but I don't take it out, I take a deep breath and walk back to the chair next to Cato "alright. It won't happen again" I say calmly "good. You are dismissed. Training starts the day after the 73rd reaping at victors village training center." "Yes mam" we say in unison. Once we are out of the room I say "I can't wait to kick your ass in training" "keep dreaming shorty." He says while walking away
